June Hatch A Long

I brought mine to a halt for now because I shined a light on the bottom of the shell & the veins look like normal veins down there still ! Is it normal for them to take this long to absorb them ?

Yes, waterfowl are painfully slow. If you happen to take another picture, @LilyD is our duck assisting genius and I see she's back!

Playing with the camera currently we are live in the Orp baby coop. If you want to see.

If it's just his top half he should be perfectly comfortable. If he hasn't absorbed the yolk sac completely then you just want to keep his bottom in the shell a bit longer for him to finish.
Okay thanks !! It's not all the way, it's basically to the top of the head ! OMG it's so cute, though, seeing his little face fully !

I'll be honest, I never thought to try candling the bottom like that at this point in the hatch. I always go by what I see in the membrane so I'm not sure what to think of those big veins. It's usually soooo dark in the shell where the chick is. I'm hoping @LilyD will step in on this one but I do know her duckies had their head and necks completely out and stayed in the bottom of their shell to finish absorbing without issue. Chicks will flip right out before they're ready but ducks seem to be calm until it's time.
It could be that you're seeing the egg waste with your flashlight too and not actual blood vessels because there is all kinds of gross stuff left behind after long hatches.
