June Hatch A Long

Got the eggs moved! And.... they have a perfect spot in the new bedroom under the watchful eye of Dolly.

My husband is obsessed with Dolly Parton so I have a habit of naming farm animals (see my screename) after Dolly Parton songs to get him interested in my farm hobbies. :lau

Cool, I should try that! I’d have to name mine after butterflies! :lau

I'm starting to see some more activity in my incubator! I set the eggs early on a Saturday so I may have quite a few hatches tonight, especially the early babies that started this morning.
The first pipped CCL looks like it might actually start unzipping soon! 2 True Blues are pipped and 4 Mottled Orpingtons but the Mottled's are off to a rough start, one looks like it pipped through a blood vessel and another is malpositioned and pipped at the wrong end of the egg BUT it looks like it managed to pip without hitting blood vessels so that's good! :fl
I don't have a camera to set up but I'll try to keep the updates coming as if I had one, lol.

Oh how exciting!!! I hope your orp babies make it! How do you know that it pipped through a vessel?

I can’t wait to see this hatch. WTB, CCL and mottled Orps. to die for.

It doesn't show as well in the image but I can see blood on the edges of the pip from hitting the vessel. It's also an awfully rough looking pip, more of a crack.
Oh man! I thought that you had drawn an X there, but that’s the bloody pip, huh? How often do they survive that? Reminds me of a recent post about a visible air cell on a duck egg. I’m pasting the link below. I thought that blood might have gotten into the air cell, darkening it?

Nope, I didn't draw that. I've had them survive it, one of the worst cases I've had with a chick pipping through a blood vessel I actually wasn't able to see any of the blood until after it finished hatching, the top of the shell was nearly black with dried blood and it was perfectly fine as if it had never happened. I still don't like seeing red when they're hatching though...
