June Hatch A Long

No matter the outcome you did not kill them. They may have been sunny side up if not for your efforts. I think my hatch is going sideways and if it does I will take what I learned and try again.

Gary

I do love sunny side up eggs! lol

Every hatch is a learning experience! Refrigerated eggs were definitely a tough start for viability but a REALLY cool experiment in my opinion!!

That was humidity 67 and climbing I’m all twitchy cause I thought I killed them
The action of adding humidity really is not an issue! You did fine, sorry it’s been so stressful for you!!

Like cluck mentioned, 80 is very high for humidity. However hygrometer values are usually off, and the specific number isn’t important. Have you read up on monitoring air cells in a hatch? That’s the key to humidity.

And we always have to remember in artificial incubation there is just so much out of our control. Good luck!!!

Forgot a photo!

I’ve got lots of silver Appleyard, some welsh harlequins, a Cayuga, a chocolate runner, a fawn and white runner, khaki Campbell and who knows what else!

I love baby ducklings!! I forgot how darn messy they are lol. I cannot for the life of me keep this brooder clean

And the person who gave me eggs has the same incubator and got 4 of 6 first time 6 of 6 second time but she’s on vaca to Italy so o couldn’t call her for help. Guru texted to add water. I was freaking out as they’ve never been that low - will that make them shrink wrap now that they were 80 down to 27 and as of this minute 72?

:lau LOL! The harder you try to keep it clean the more excited they get to mess it up! I really think waterfowl think you're destroying their hard work when you clean their "mess" up. :gig
I did have pretty good luck reusing Chinese takeout plastic containers to make cleaner waterers though. I just cut the lid so they could get their whole bill in there without actually going for a swim. lol

No, they won't shrink wrap from a short period of low humidity prior to pipping externally. Once you see that external pip is when you want to resist opening the incubator. Keeping the humidity around 65% is good because once they start to hatch the humidity will also spike.
