June Hatch A Long

Pics
I’m getting to a very similar situation myself now... breeds I want, cost of eggs, living on an island... I’m going to need to make the jump to that soon I think. It’s good to know that people have success with them despite the challenges. I wonder if I could be successful with things like saddled and detached air cells? So scary!

Every egg I just put into lockdown has a saddled air cell. They're still developing, so we shall see. My instincts say that saddled has a better chance than fully displaced, but who knows.

@Trux IM DROOLING. I LOVE laced birds.... and used to have some Wyandotte’s but I do not prefer the personalities of every Wyandotte that’s been on my property.[/QUOTE]
I have several Wy's SL, GL, and Columbians. 4 of the chix are a cross with Columbian hens. Since you like laced birds I will share a pic of my favorite girl
This is Tilly, a Silver Penciled Rock, She will be the next to grace Sir Samuels abode.

I put 7 eggs into lockdown last night. Out of 34 shipped. Sigh. We shall see Friday. Fellow is insisting on mailing me chicks this fall, I keep telling him that's not necessary.
Sorry for budding in on this but, I thought I would chime in with a few pictures of a breeder I use
This is how she packs eggs for shipping Those foam blocks get covered with a foam bottom and top and in between then into a box, then into a bigger box with packing then sealed.
Her customers have very good hatch rates and some have 100%, any eggs over 4 days old don't get shipped but get hatched at the farm and sold as chicks.
So just thought I would share this breeders methods and let ya know there are good ones out there. BTW @jolenesdad @CluckNDoodle she has Orps of all kinds

Tiny babies figured out their warming cave! Finally. I only get screamed at a ton instead of all the time now. They get lonely easily still. They're still too young to go outside, but we're going to fudge the rules a bit. They just want to follow me too much, and I'm outside a lot right now. I just fold my legs and let them crawl around while I plant. It keeps them from screaming their brains out.

I have a small problem I've found on Claw! His toenail is growing sideways. Is that going to be a long term problem? (Any idea what caused it?) His other foot has an extra toe growing out of his hind toe.

(Hind toe)

Also, two quick things. My silkie is supposed to be... Red? She said "self coloring red". Is that a thing? She's gray with a red patch on her head. Currently Turing a weird green color!

And tiny babies have beaks that are half one color, half another. It looks like someone swiped the top of their beaks with a paintbrush. Any idea if that might even out? I feel like it will, but I hope not. It's cute! (Still no idea on breed)

I kind of want to set more to follow the hatch along longer. :p

They get ten minutes snuggling under me before they tire and go back to bed. I won't toast them no matter how clingy they are.
