June Hatch A Long

Welp. I won't be giving Florentine any more eggs. 2 eggs missing and one egg found smashed. Only the lone Banty egg left under her and I'm not sure its even developing. If it makes it until next Friday and hatches, it'll be a miracle.

I can see now why these guys had problems hatching. I think someone put geese in my duck eggs as a joke can you see the size of X number 2 (I should just call them thing one and thing 2 lol )

Poor Florentine is not ready to be a mother.

Some of them have the want to sit and be broody but they don't have a clue why lol. I had one that did fine the whole time the eggs were under her until they started moving and she could feel it through the shell then she would kill them. She only had one year as a broody and she was relegated to egg layer only and then later was fired from even that.

They literally look like they're growing right out of the eggs. lol Godzilla.

@Tatuana photos please!!!!! I’m so happy the little one made it! And “almost” having an anxiety attack is a gigantic win in one of the most stressful times of the entire process!

I'll get some as soon as they wake up again! I just got them down after a rough day. I had them in a dog crate with the bottom blocked. It was too small so I went to Home Depot to get them a box. After carefully setting up the box (and getting very distracted by Home Depot's plants....) I moved them over. Came back to Demon Kitten halfway in the box 'babysitting'. Back to the drawing board! Modified the dog crate to have a box inside it to keep the babies safe. Cue two hours of them screaming bloody murder. I didn't think to check since I was in the zone writing. Finally checked... And my heating cave died! So cue running to the store for a cheap heating pad, and parts to make a new heating cave. Come back home, make the cave, give the monsters. One of them manages to break it within ten minutes. BACK to the store for the part I forgot, back home, take it apart, fix it.

By now the peepers are over tired and fed up. I've tried stuffing them in the warming hut and they won't stay or shush. I THINK they're thinking of sleeping now. If not I'm going to go insane.


Demon Kitten is not happy with me. She wants to play with HER chickens.
