June Hatch A Long

They don't usually peep that loud for extended periods of time unless they need something, usually it's because they're cold. Are you sure they have enough warmth?

I checked with three different thermometers that I know are right in several different places in the brooder. They all came up with 96.2F. I upped it a bit and now it's a toasty 99F, which they seem to like better. They still won't settle too well, though. It's my bratty Salmon Faverolle and Silkie who won't stay in. The tiny babies are perfectly happy sleeping, but they see bratty babies out and about and go join them.

I hope they get comfortable for you soon!

@LilyD yay!!!! I’m so proud of the things! :lau

They’re so big. I can’t even imagine getting them back in the shell...they have to have gotten too big for it. Can you even imagine tbem turning around to zip?

I’m so glad they have had you instead of me. :bow

They couldn't even get their head out of the shell it was so big. I can't imagine the idea of them turning all the way around in that egg.

Some of them have the want to sit and be broody but they don't have a clue why lol. I had one that did fine the whole time the eggs were under her until they started moving and she could feel it through the shell then she would kill them. She only had one year as a broody and she was relegated to egg layer only and then later was fired from even that.

That’s kind of what I expect happened here. Those babies were pretty well developed, such a shame. But I’m glad I got the eggs from a friend and didn’t order eggs that would be wasted on her.
