June Hatch A Long

Pics
I’m so so mad at myself! I’ve mentioned the BCM and OEs that I’m incubating and plan to slip under broody hens at lockdown. I don’t think that I mentioned that I also have a gazillion guinea fowl eggs from a group of seven female and one male guinea. All spring I tried to convince the hens to lay in the coop instead of making their own outside nests, and I was unsuccessful. After a bobcat ate a guinea, I locked them up for 10 days and they finally made nests in the coop! Just two days ago, three hens started sitting on these nests, which now have so many eggs! The coop nest is next to the garbage can where I keep feed. Tonight, there were three guinea hens on the nest, and I managed to knock a can of yeast into one of the guineas and the nest! She freaked and left the nest and roosted with the others, though the remaining two girls stayed. I couldn’t tell whether I cracked eggs but it’s 50 F here tonight and no mama is on that nest. I’m so mad that my clumsiness probably undid so much work on my part and on hers! Arg! Sorry just needed to vent. If they leave the nest for awhile tomorrow then I’ll check for cracked eggs, but otherwise I’ll leave it alone to reassure them that the nest is safe and “undiscovered”...

@jolenesdad @Kris5902 @CluckNDoodle and all others, my little mate didn’t make it perhaps I just didn’t act quick enough. I do have a feed store near by, I’ll pop in and get some supplies tomorrow just to be super prepared. I still have 7 beautiful peeps and six, 6 weeks old silkies that I bought as chicks. So I still have plenary to love! Thanks for all the tips, I’ll store in the the memory bank for future references

I'm sorry to hear that! :hugs Sometimes there isn't anything we can do to change the outcome for them but you did your best and your other chicks look wonderful and healthy!

Did she go back to her nest? I don't have any experience with guineas but I know they can be fussier than chickens so I imagine she wouldn't just allow you to stick her back on the eggs? lol
I hope she's back on her nest this morning and that the eggs made it! :fl
