June Hatch A Long

Mixed flock enthusiast so sorry to hear about your flock. I try with mine to practice safe buying practices. I don't let any birds into the flock until they have been quarantined and healthy for longer than the incubation period for the common sicknesses. Other than that I do get birds from the swaps but our swaps usually try to test for the common illnesses like AI and pullorum before they are allowed to sell there and for the most part like 90% of those selling are NPIP certified as being free of illness in their flocks which helps a lot.

CluckNDoodle ready for those little goslings to make an appearance? I just got word my eggs are sitting at the Post Office. Trying to talk my husband in to picking them up on his way home from work otherwise I will have to get them tomorrow afternoon and that's just not right lol. Should have close to 2 dozen of Orp eggs and another 18 duck eggs for the incubator this run with a DRY hatch fingers crossed. We are on our 4th day no rain my garden is suffering but my humidity is dropping finally.

Good question! Awaiting responses.

I sold most of my first batch this year on Craigslist. EVERYONE wanted Legbars. My marans, not so much. That was weird. I’ve sold a few pullet marans for 30 bucks a piece. Chicks... none. I finally gave away most of my marans grow outs to a sweet deserving family I found on Craigslist.

I just put a post up about ducks to find families that really want them so I can maybe line up potentials BEFORE they hatch.

I put an ad on CL for ducklings pretty much as soon as I set the eggs and started talking to people I know. So far I have one CL response and one person I know interested.

LOL! At this point, I'm not even sure it's accurate! Chickens were my gateway drug to ducks and geese. :lau

Exactly. I now have many more, many ducks, hatching eggs, and I'm dying for some geese and turkeys but need to buy some more land first ;)

Yes! I'm like a giddy little newbie all over again, lol!
Yay! More eggs!! I'm so glad you're going to have another hatch for us to follow! :pop

I think I may live in chicken & fowl central. There has been more than one occasion that I gave up chicks that I hatched for myself because I couldn't meet the demand and I just told myself I could hatch more, lol! I had to delete a post I made inquiring if anyone was interested in goslings because I now have a longer waiting list than I do eggs and everyone wanted multiple goslings. I set eggs for myself this time and didn't tell anyone but somehow it slipped out in conversation and BAM now I'm sharing these chicks too. :lau

I really want to hatch some quail because they're so tiny and sweet but I can't seem to stop agreeing to hatching others. A friend is giving me 2 more incubators though and one has quail rails...sooo...I have clearly lost my mind. lol

I feel like I’m bringing down what should hopefully be a pretty happy thread about our love for hatching chicks! So, to make up for it, I’m posting pictures of BCM 9-ball, our hen that successfully hatched 12 chicks! All 12 are still going strong at 1 mo of age. 9 Ball is so amazing, working so smartly and diligently to keep her babies happy and to integrate the babies with the flock.
:love:wee

Way to go 9 ball!

We have "hatch" :) , my broody was sitting on 4 eggs, 2 of which have hatched, I have 22 in one incubator and it's on day 4, 6 in another and they are on day 3. Don't know if you can make out the little yellow ball of fluff.. went to show he/she to a friend and she spotted another that blended in with the pine shavings.

YAY!!!! congrats! Can’t wait for the incubator babies! What breeds did you set??

Chickie peep peeps, one of the black ones has a toe fetish...she grabs her own toe and tips herself over.

Omg you’re killing me they’re so cute. Agree with @CluckNDoodle the silver babies are so adorable AND DID YOU SAY SHE IS A SILVER LACED BLUE ORPINGTON?! What?!?!? Pics. Please. And I mean while we are at it, I guess I need pics of ALL YOUR BIRDS. I think I dreamed about the silver penciled barred rocks.

YASSSSSSSSS!!!!! one day I hope our hatches match up. I’m already making breeds list for July. :lau You guys are just the WORST enablers.

If I could get some reliable broodies, Moyer hatchery sells hatching eggs of all their specialty broilers and I’d love to get some raised with the flock sometime.

My husband already thinks I'm crazy and every one on here is talking me into hatching way too many new kids lol. The cool thing is that we can always find homes for the pullets/ducks and the meat birds roosters and turkeys will find homes in my freezer so in the end we will be down to what I agreed upon for winter lol. That just means that I can hatch more next spring to share with others and replenish our dwindling supplies.
