June Hatch A Long

4 Ben's hatched chicks in the coop. All are still in the same coop, run and free range. We don't have any separated at all.
We took the remaining eggs from hatch's and tried incubator. 1 hatched. About 4-5 younger then the youngest I. The coop.
My daughter and I did take pip outside when Greenie had her chick outside (last to hatch in the coop) Green was cautious and didn't want to leave her duck bath at 1st but was confused by 2 chicks being on either side about 2 ft away from her. Pip was crying. Green approached. Pecked twice then sat on Pip. Green's baby eventually came over and snuggled under momma also.
When we approached she didn't want to move but did spooke and ran into hay field edge with her chick. Pip doesn't run yet and just sat there crying.
After Green had her chick out of the hay we moved Pip closer to that area. Green peeked again and then what looked. Like picked pip up by the head, but dropped her!
We took Pip back inside for snuggles and a nap.
Not sure what to make of the encounter at all!

Hmm, I would say it sounds like she thought about adopting her but picking a chick up is not something hens do, that was some kind of aggressive move toward pip.

Argh. We're now at 36ish hours since the first pip and nothing yet. I did pull a little shell away to make sure the membrane and we're okay. No blood, no veins and all are still alive.

Remind me, are you hatching chicks or ducks? Because after hatching geese, 36 hours doesn't even surprise me a little bit if it's ducks. Lol

We have a baby!!

Please help, guys !!! My duckling has been taking his sweet time hatching, & finally has a little hole in the air cell, but there is a layer of something on top of him, kinda...I'm thinking the membrane ? It looks a bit thick, & it's like a light brownish ? I can see his little bill clearly, & he's moving & chirping. Do I do anything to help ? Is that layer normal, or will he suffocate ? I'm so scared right now ! He first pipped externally something VERY early yesterday morning while I was sleeping, then made the larger hole today. Do I do something or just leave him be ?
