Little bugger pipped last night at 11:30, and I was woken up at 5:30 with loud peeping. 2 of the 3 other eggs are pipped too!

Glad that some of your babies hatched! :weeWere these shipped eggs?

Yes and I'm mainly glad to have several pyncheons as they are so hard to find. Hoping I have 1 boy and 2 girls!

The little d'Anvers is one of the sweetest most laid back chicks I've ever known. When I got home from work yesterday I checked the mama and the baby was gone! I searched the whole coop and moved on to the run, looking for a body. Then I noticed the other mama had an extra chick lol. I'm glad she didn't attack the poor thing and was happy to babysit. I guess the baby got bored waiting with her mama for her hatch mates to come out. I shook my finger at her and put her back in the nest. Babies can be so oblivious to the dangers of the world.

Today I am doing Scuba training so I can't even be home too keep an eye on things. Sigh. I just have to hope for the best and try not to think about it for 6 more hours!

I knew that Naruto’s chicks were hatching! She was crouching and looking under her and making tiny little clucky sounds! I see two! One solid black and one black with a white head spot. The white spot should be a male olive egger. The black could be a female OE or either sex BCM. Go Naruto! First time broody mom!:wee:love:fl

And Susan.... looks just exactly like she has for the past three weeks. Smushed flat as a pancake and silent, unlike Naruto who is doing the crouch. Susan is a light bird, but I hope she’s not smushing any chicks! I can totally see her as the mom saying “Love me, don’t ever leave me! We will stay here always...” While I bet Naruto is saying, “Hurry up already! I have to go to the bathroom and I’m hungry!” :lau I bet that Naruto hasn’t lost an ounce, while Susan has probably dropped a third of her weight!

GL! I’m insane! I skipped a siblings trip in Denver to be here and hover over my broodies...

Sorry to hear that you lost a bird! I don’t know how anyone free ranges without a dog or electric fencing... We’ve lost multiple chickens/ducks/guineas even when we were home. The guineas seem to mostly hold their own at least...
I free range my chickens and chicks. I'm out there when I let the chicks and ducks free range, but the chickens are out from daylight til dust. Door is always open. I have lost a few to a fox but I have 3 dogs that do a good job at keeping them safe. Some times I catch the dogs sleeping in the coop with the chickens.
