Awesome! Congratulations on a great hatch!!
My hens have gone broody one after the other this year as well. Pretty soon all of my hens will be raising chicks instead of laying eggs. Lol

I have a confession, in all the excitement of the chicks hatching and getting Peacock and Turkey eggs...I didn't make ANY notes on what day I set the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes or the lone mystery duck egg. If it weren't for this wonderful thread I wouldn't know what day I set them.

I believe they're on day 11. I had 6 BLRW and 1 duck egg. I only set 4 BLRWs because 2 were cracked. So now on day 11 (I think), the duck egg is infertile as well as 2 of the BLRWs. That leaves me with 2 lonely little eggs in the incubator but other than the shells being a bit pourous the chicks do look lively! I'm going to try to attach a video, I haven't had luck with videos on here yet...

This will be a good experiment to see how well this incubator works without it being full. lol

I hatched 2 in a big Hova-bator that holds 47 eggs so you should be fine
at least they will have plenty room once they are out of the shell

Chick #4 that was the assist with small bleed and wry neck yesterday is in with the big kids this morning. Watching it, the only thing I can think of is the song “I came in like a wrecking ball”

That baby is a uncoordinated spaz! it’s definitely able to hold it own with the other 3. I guarantee it’s a boy

Thanks CluckNDoodle! My daughter and I talked about taking a chick from Naruto and giving it to Susan, but in the end, we just couldn’t do that to Naruto, who’s being such a sweet and devoted mom. If there had just been one more chick that hatched... a lot of “what if’s”...

I think I need to figure things out before I try hatching anyone else’s eggs again... can I please pick your brain??? 1) Any thoughts on causes of fully developed, nonpipped eggs in our scenario? Too hot I guess for the day 20 hatch, but anything else I should be thinking of? I’m going to try to incubate a few guinea batches in attempt to troubleshoot... 2) Two of our dead chicks were in “beak over wing” malposition. I know you deal with malpositions yourself. Does this mean anything in particular to you? Is there any way to identify these chicks and assist when they don’t internally pip? 3) I ordered three rispens vaccinated salmonella favorelles and three blue Ameraucana from the Chick Hatchery. I’m hoping that the Favorelles will stay buddies with Susan so she has friends in the flock again. Supposed to hatch Wed and probably arrive Friday. Susan has never had chicks. What’s the best way to get them under her? I plan to wait for that night. Should I slip in a few chicks every hour to simulate hatching, or does it matter? Anything else I should do to increase her chances of accepting them?

Congrats on a great hatch!! My first 2 are fully feathered already and outside in the grow out coop, and my 9 are in the outside brooder with their heat plate and much more room to run around

I like outdoor heat plate brooding the best!

Still waiting here. 23 external pips. Four or five enlarging their pip holes where if they were an chicken I’d think they were zipping but NOPE. You can see them chewing and no distress sounds so they’re just taking their time.

@CluckNDoodle how many of the Legbars didn’t hatch? Have you ever had that before? My shipped Legbars in general didn’t do the best.

@LilyD my ranging meat birds are the WORST to come home in the evening. I have to round them up in three rounds and THEN pick up a few stragglers. It’s turned into a 20-30 minute process... but it still makes me chuckle every time so its still fine with me. They’d totally sleep wherever they stopped eating bugs for the night if they could.

Same here with the exception of the turkeys who will charge anything that moves. Not in a bad way they just like following moving things (cars, joggers, dogs, cats lol) The white meat birds have gotten a reprieve since my fencer just blew so need to get that replaced and up to snuff before I can process.

Thanks for sharing that! What day are you at? What candler do you use?

We are at day 12 starting tonight at 8:08pm no more candling until after day 14. We use a 1000 lumens flash light with a 1 inch width I can cup it at the top and block the light from leaking around and then sit the eggs on my hand to check them. Works pretty well.
