June Hatch-A-Long

I just got thinking, I never updated on the frizzle tolbunt polish/buff orpington cross eggs my kids wanted me to incubate. I had put 3 of them in the incubator the same day that I put in my 7 uncracked Welsummer eggs in. To my surprise, all 3 of them are fertile and growing well! I am interested to see what they look like. Not sure what we are going to do with them...LOL!

I was actually just looking at getting some chicks and somebody wants $15 per pullet that were sexed at a hatchery :th Know what happened last time I got 2 sexed jersey giants from a hatchery? They were both cockerels 😂
They have day old jerseys at the feed store and I was seriously contemplating getting two and sticking them under the murderous broody.

my only reason I’m contemplating it is because I realized there was a light on in the barn I left on when I locked them in to hatch and I just noticed a hole in the ground today from a rotten beam in the barn. Since she is my alpha hen and a proven broody, I really wonder if she sensed danger. She is so determined to continue to sit and I’m afraid of throwing my flock out of balance if I cull her. Maybe I try for a week solid to break her first.

Oh my goodness, It's almost 5 and I'm just now sitting down to eat breakfast. Er, lunch..um I mean dinner! Baby #1 FINALLY settled down and is napping, but only after punting every other egg in the bator. ALL 17!! I swear I herd somewhere in her screaming, um I mean peeping..."Get up everybody! Up UP UP!!"
She (it better be a she!) was the egg that pipped last night right as I was trying to go to bed.

She zipped out rather quickly but was a little under baked. Probably could have used another 6 hours or so, her abdomen was still open about 1/4". I initially was going to just watch it but she started thrashing around so much I could see it yanking and pulling out some membranes so I grabbed some good embroidery scissors to snip her from the egg. When I got back she had pulled free from the egg but still had that glob dragging around pulling on her so I snipped it. Even though she's bashed every single egg the abdomen concerns me so she's still in the bator finishing her baking cycle.
Once things look better I'll dab something on it and put her in the brooder.

I've currently got 9 external pips and all is quiet ...for the moment. *takes a breath*

Contacted Hoover and lickity split they issued a refund for the missing chicks. 3 Red Rangers were not in the order, however one mystery chick was. Doesn't look like anything else in the box, I'll post pics later.

I have a feeling I'm not going to get much sleep tonight. :D
