By the time you add a feeder and waterer, I'd be concerned about them having enough real estate not under the heat plate. There's not a lot of space to escape from the warm when it's not wanted. So are we sure this enough room for 6 chicks (max) for days 1-3 before we move them to the garage? It seems so tiny! I’ve got a mason jar size feeder coming, but I’ll ductape some of the anti slip mat to the top of the heat plate to give them a little more room.
Also, will they be able to reach this drinker? The nipple is about 2.5inches off the ground, or do I need to put it on something lower?
First time chick mum....I’m literally nesting.![]()
Put glad press and seal on the heat plate. It’s a trick @CluckNDoodle taught usBy the time you add a feeder and waterer, I'd be concerned about them having enough real estate not under the heat plate. There's not a lot of space to escape from the warm when it's not wanted.
By the time they're ready to hop on top, they won't need anti-slip matting on the heat plate. I'd skip that part. It'll be hard to get the residual sticky off.
Did he email you his suggestions on how to hatch? If so, are you going to follow them?I got 11 on the 10 plus listing. No major flaws just a few saddled air cells and two were more porous than what I would have chosen.
How were yours when they arrived? Did they hatch yet? That is the same seller that I bought my Svart Hona eggs from.

He’s a booted bantamWhat breed is Elvis? Currently we have 1 rooster and 1 drake in our pen with the hens and ducks. That will change though as I have plans for a larger or even multiple chicken coops and breeding some full blood chickens as well as some crosses. I don't really want a pen for every single breed I have (as that number is pretty big and growing at the moment). So my plan is to keep the roosters in the bachelor pad pen and then have the main coop with the big chicken run and a couple small runs with indoor pens attached to the main coop or as a separate coop setup for a breeding area. Then I plan on just grabbing the hens from the main pen and run and the rooster I want from the bachelor pad and give them their own living quarters for a while and rotate as needed depending on what breeds I want to hatch eggs from.
