June Hatch-A-Long

what's the link to "The Hatch Cam"??

You're going to find that netbook an addiction also...since I got mine last year it has been in the tractor with me while plowing, taken out on the boat in the lake and lately in the incubating/hatching room with BYC always up...

I will have it up on Thursday (due date) on youtube & will post direct link then- since I have other stuff uploaded there and know how it works. I tested and it found my cam! I am so eggsited!! I have 5 of 8, though if I just get 1 or 2 I will be eggstatic, LOL, both puns intended.

Forgot to mention I am ordering some silkies eggs from Indigo Egg this month!!

Congrats to all the pippers!

Lockdown today for me. Candled lastnite and had to removed a clear Ameraucana and a blood ring speckled sussex. Out of 12 sussex, 9 into lockdown.

A couple of the aircells look really big and like they are detached a bit in spots. My humidity has been 55ish%. I thought a too large aircell meant too low humidity?????
I could see the chick moving in those eggs, so thats good.
I ran lower humidity in my 1st hatches and they didnt do so well. So I started using higher humidity and getting better results. Its very very dry here.
Any ideas what large aircell is from????

Good luck all!

Today was day 20 for me. A couple had started pipping yesterday and I was a bit concerned. Two hatched very early this morning and then I had a popcorn chicken effect afterward. Most of the eggs were of mixed breeds (I think). I'm going to be contacting the breeder to find out for sure but I think most have a Brahma daddy.

3 eggs are Silkies and I'm still waiting on one of the Silkies to start zipping. One of the larger eggs never pipped or wiggled as far as I could tell so I took my 9 year old son into the hot and steamed bathroom with me after we candled the egg. I didn't see any movement but I determined the location of the air cell and took a butterknife into the bathroom with us. I cracked the egg and it didn't take long to find out that it was a quitter from day one of lockdown. It still had a huge yolk sack. My son started crying right away. Perfect time to explain to him about the hatching of chicks. I explained to him that there was most likely something wrong with this poor thing and that was why it didn't make it. I did a little anatomy lesson with him (no cutting, thank you) and I told him he should appreciate the many little ones that did make it. Out of 11 that were placed into the hatcher, 10 (if you want to count the one that's pipped and working on zipping atm) made it.

I've got the sweetest boy ever.
