when do you change your chicks from indoors to outdoors. I dont want to loose any of my four but too much work inside. they all have their fethers and ar about weeks old

HI Dolfi,
It did not show how many weeks old???
About 6 weeks should be OK if it is not to cold at night.
I put mine out but my garage is my coop.
Just check to be sure they do not pig pile on one another for heat......
The ones on the bottom can smother...................
I make certain there is deep bedding .
Good Luck.....and yes, there for sure comes a time when inside is not fun........
And the odor becomes a problem.
Good Luck.............

. By 8 weeks mine no longer need any type of heat and I move them to a 45x48 grow out pen outside and turn them out with my flock during the day to range they take their licks and move into the pecking order by ten week I move the pullets into the hen house and the boys go into the cockerel pen and range during the day also I keep the Roos till I make a selection of the ones I want to keep to breed and sell the rest at about 15 weeks hope this helps

. To small ? Less water at this point you might want to stay dry till the first pip and try to get them to grow a lil might be your best bet you don't have much time are the chicks filling out the shell ?

Spoke with DH and nothing has pipped, zipped or hatched from our 22 eggs.  Today is 21 1/2 days.  I am afraid we may have a complete bust on this hatch which is very disappointing.  We are going to keep them in the incubator until tomorrow to see if there is a delay but I do not believe so.  I have heard that Maran have a tendency to take longer but that is not what is hatching.  The Ameraucana's are local and the SFH were shipped, of which two eggs were broken in shipping.   I am a little bummed right now.  I am afraid that something happened with temps/humidity when he was not around and we were not aware.  :(
. Don't toss um give them another 24 hrs then investigate !!

ok mine are about 6 weeks old but when i put them in the 18 months old peck on them

i start putting my babies in a "playpen" when they're about 3-4 weeks and mostly feathered... they go out for the day. i have shelter of a dog crate or rubbermaid tub on it's side and an expen set up around them. then around 5 weeks they go in the little coop and i block off a section of the run just for them. by about 8 weeks i open the run and they get to free range with everyone but they go back to separate coops at night..getting them all into the main coop happens when i need the little coop for more babies! ;)

there is some pecking but i watch and it's minimal..no one gets beat up too much..just reminded that they're low on the pole!
