You chick has such fluffy cheeks I just want to squeeze them!! I need to get cheek pics of my AMs.

Worried about El too. He was right in the thick of things hatching-wise. Hope he is OK.

Thanks Alibabe! So far so good...breathing normally now, but still limp. Hopefully just taking her time to finish absorbing the yolk (there was a lentil-size piece left, so not horrible) and blood. The fact that she warmed up without dying cheers me up a little. I think I caught her literally at the nick of time. A long way to go though... Keep cheering her on!

Day 21 hatch day today for me! Nothing but a little rocking in the incubator, but started off with a tragedy in the broody box. Went to check on the girls this morning (I have 2 broodies, one on each egg). One of my broodies was up and asking to come out of the pen (she does this every a.m. Then hope back on the nest after about 20 mins), so I figured no hatching activity. I was wrong. Looked in her box, and there was a squished mass of egg with a little head poking out. I scooped it up right away, figuring it was dead (it was quite cold), but then she gasped! I ran her inside and fired up my Brinsea mini as a hospital incubator (it warms up fast). There is quite a bit of blood and a tiny bit of yolk, so she is obviously early. She was internally pipped yesterday, so I figure she pipped, which weakened the shell, and my inexperienced hen then squished her. As she is warming up, she is breathing a bit faster ( about 5 breaths/min when I first found her, WAY too low). But otherwise limp and motionless. I pulled most of the shell off, as it was broken and bleeding, but left the veins/yolk attached in hopes she will absorb more. I have little hope she will make it, what with squishing, hypothermia, blood loss, and risk of infection, but I have to try! My first Cream Legbar hen. Fight girl! (My last hatch was all cockerels!)

Oh man... at least you have done everything you can! If she pulls most everything inside her body, I always put a dab of hydrogen peroxide on the spot to help ward off infection. I only do that once though and don't reapply as it can hurt if continued.

great job! My broodys are due tomorrow. I peeped my head in and they were still sitting. I really want to check their eggs but I feel as I should leave them alone

You can try honey water/ sugar water/ sav a chic.

I will try that. I was thinking that or some antibiotic ointment, but she is still absorbing right now. She let out her first cheep and twitched her leg a little, but no signs of uncurling her toes or body yet...still sound asleep on her side. JNJ, I will definitely try some honey water in a little while, but I figure her yolk should hold her for a bit, and I don't want to stress her out or drown her. She isn't holding up (or even moving) her head on her own yet. Still wet and curled like she is still in the egg...she has a long way to go be a healthy chick yet. My daughter named her MIC (Make It Chick), so hopefully she will!

Nothing happening in the incubator pip-wise yet...after much staring I have seen every egg rock, so it is a waiting game!

Thanks Coeaka. I know what you mean about the broodies. After my experience this morning I so want to check the egg under my other broody, but decided to leave well enough alone. Good luck!!!
