June Hatch a Long

I don't have pics that are very good to show it but in my incubator I hatch in cartons. I mark my air cells so at lockdown I tilt them in the carton so the whole air cell is above the edges of the carton walls.
i have a egg turner but am going to try lockdown on cartons because of the damaged air cell. do i put them air cell up or on the side

George, I know there are some people who will disagree with what Im about to say.

Pip the egg.

Open the air cell and peer down inside to see if there is an internal pip in the membrane. If there isnt a tear or a beak showing, slowly remove tiny bits until you have exposed the chick enough for it to breath. Be extremely careful that you dont cut through an important blood supply, or he will bleed to death! Make sure to kee the egg warm while you are doing it and keep your fingers moist so that the membrane does not dry out. I used tweezers and a pin.

I had 3 chicks die in the egg on the last day, they were shaking and rocking all night, then the next morning they were dead. They drowned in the egg. It was caused by a hen that always laid large eggs. One egg survived, one I dropped on accident and caused the membrane to break enough for the chick to breath. It was the brother to the other 3 dead chicks. The other chicks would ahve survived if I had pipped the eggs and allowed them to breath.

Im not saying they will survive, but on day 23, what do you have to lose?

Start opening the eggs one at a time and watch for movement.

I am almost scared to candle in case they are not viable, maybe I will jinx them. Not that I am Superstitious or anything, touch wood!

I have space at the end of each row in the incubator, do I need to put some paper or something in there to stop the eggs from falling over and not standing up straight and also my last row only has 4 eggs in it and I am scared the eggs are going to fall over and break or something.

I cut up an old cardboard egg box and filled in the gaps but worried now in case I am blocking air circulation to the eggs at the end of each row. Should I take the cardboard out and leave them to fall over or can I leave it in.

Hope the above question makes sense.

there are quite a few here that hatch with the Eco 20 they may chime in and help I'm not sure with the way they are layed out only that the whole incubator rocks side to side as opposed to having a turning rack

Eggs standing upright on point. It moves from back(eggs laying at 45 degree leaning backwards if they are on the point) to middle(eggs upright) to front (eggs leaning forward by 45% angle) to middle to back etc. I probably sound like a lunatic now, I hope what I have written makes sense.

Day 1 and the lady is already in a panic

Pic of eggs in incubtor with cardboard holding them in place so they dont fall over sideways.

Auto cradle. Incubator slips on and then rolls back to front. Start at middle, move to back, 1 hour later move to middle, 1 hour later, move to front etc etc

El, hope these pics help explain what I mean about the cardboard holding up the eggs and how my auto cradle works.
