June Hatch a Long

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick check in so you know I am still part of the gang..................
lol.png

Not much to report here.
Set 24 SLW's on the 25th of May..12 under a broody.12 in the inc...............
Also have the 5 that the broody was setting and put them in the inc.
I lost my whole last batch.......my own fault. didn't mark the set date on the calendar.....................
I am going to set Serama eggs sometime this week. have not done any this year.
I put a solid red roo over a white and a buff hen..............just curious how their color will turn out.
They. all have good conformation. Some of you may know that Serama do not breed true to color.
There are 2500 different colors and it is just a kick to see them at 6 months or so to see what you got.

Also, I have three English Orp pullets................they are 12 or so weeks.I am getting tight on space and
am wondering if I dare integrate them to the Orp pen. I do not know if the Roo will try to mate them before they are ready...........
He is huge................Actually, as I am writing this, I am thinking to soon.
Any feedback appreciated....................
Welcome to all the new folks that have joined the thread......good luck.............
And congratulations to those with a hatch.......................
Later.........................

I have a question, if I have been using a cardboard egg carton in the incubator from day one, when I go into lockdown how should I position them? I've had them on their side with the large end of the eggs slightly pointing up. Does anyone have pictures to share of their lockdown? Im using an LG forced air- so im wondering if I could just set something under the wire on each corner to raise the wire up

Why do you want to raise it?

Thank you. That's what I thought, but I wanted to verify since I am new at this. I have learned so much each time I have candled and cracked them (outside, of course) to check my decisions. All have been right on so far and it really gives me confidence that I am getting this figured out.

Get some cheap zip lock bags. When ever I cull eggs I open a couple to reassure myself of what I saw. And NO MESS, just toss in the trash.

LOCKDOWN!! Started this morning. Let the anticipation begin! Ready for this group of olive eggers. 18 days I'm good, but the last 3, I just focus on keeping my

Lord have mercy this is a chatty BUNCH!!!

Here is my hatch. Neighbor gave me 35 eggs. Found out at day 7 we had some serious fertility issues. At day 14 culled down to 12, at 18 down to 10 for hatching. I got 9 live chicks! These are RIR and BR roos over RIR,BR,and BO hens

And today is hatch day. Only one at the bottom left made it on hatch day. It hatched after midnight....lol I did have 2 that were a little sticky, once chicks started hatching humidity got a little high, but all in all very pleased with this bunch. Got another bunch of the same due on the 11th. Same for this bunch. Started with 24 culled down to 12. Havent made final cull yet.

Congrats!

Successful hatch! Seven new chicks!
