June Hatch a Long

Candled tonight and had to cull 6 eggs because they were clear. Most were my Golden Comets too :-/
On a good note, saw awesome development in my Buffs and they were the ones I was so sure weren't going to make it! Only 8 days left until lockdown!!

Shipped eggs and and mine are looking ok, considering.
1st set of guineas hope still good. Just gonna cook em til they pop. or until the 12th.
New guinea and ducks, set Sat are showing developement I can see. At least 4 rouen eggs are taking right off. And a good portion of the quick checked guineas are too. Adding a set of chicken eggs Saturday to these. Depends on what ladies lay what will go in. Will be last week for my Sex-link eggs unless I swap some birds.
Got a look into guinea nest and roughly 40 eggs there today and not floating in a puddle.

I'm going to need to candle again tonight because one egg got laid with the ten incubating eggs this morning when the broody was off and I need to find the new egg (this time I'm going to mark them so it's easier to know). On the plus side, a RIR hen got on the nest while the BR broody was gone, but broody returned and climbed back into the correct nest and made the other girl leave. RIR hadn't laid her egg yet so she wasn't happy being made to leave. LOL

Well, I didn't mark them but I moved her to a new place where the other hens can't get her spot when she gets up for a break. She was in another nest so I figured I needed to block the other hens from her nest. I found the new egg and removed it. Unfortunately, I dropped an egg and broke it. I brought it in to see what was inside since I've never incubated eggs before.

I was surprised at how small it was since I couldn't see anything that small when I candle. Candling give me the impression that I have most of the egg filled by chick. This thing was about the size of my thumb.

Poor Baby. He was alive and kicking before (the crack was too big to attempt a repair and I figured bacteria would invade and kill him anyway and that would endanger the other 9 eggs).

Will be setting 5 broodies with shipped Delaware eggs. I should get them tomorrow but will set probably Friday or Saturday.

All under apple/peach and in a pear tree (have all 3, and a Black walnut)
And alot of eggs cooking or collecting. Hatches for the next 3 weeks minimum. Prolly all year if I can.

Who says 5 acres isn't enough for everything.

Aww man I forgot the kids. We have three at home but 5 all together. Lol. And I have a husband like your wife. Dosent know how to say no. And if I want it bad enough and he already said no I can get him to say yes eventually. Lol

Well it has been a long day. My girls 15 and 13 were working and riding horses today. My 13 was on our paint and he spooked and took off with her and started bucking. On third buck she flew off. Called 911 and ambulance came out and took her in. After many hours and a kind staff. We have found out a chip is broke off of her L2 verterbe and has to wear a back brace. She already has scoliosis and this verterbe is in the middle of a curve in her back. So now we have a dr apt coming in her near future. So glad that is all that is wrong with her. She is definitely one tough cookie. And strong like her grandpa who was a bull rider. I guess you could say she is a chip off the old block. Lol.

Its not THAT easy with my wife. Just tell her when she ask 6 months later "Where that come from?" I say something like "Remember when we talked about (Blah Blah Blah)..... well." and she gets a face and almost throws her hands up but just sighs.

ARG! Totally with you on clumsy fingers. I am hand turning my eggs....and I have already found one crack that I know I made.

Its not THAT easy with my wife. Just tell her when she ask 6 months later "Where that come from?" I say something like "Remember when we talked about (Blah Blah Blah)..... well." and she gets a face and almost throws her hands up but just sighs.

Now that is funny cuz I do the same thing. But he says where was I when you told me this? Lol
