June Hatch-A-Long

I wasn't excited about the first hatch of this year. Not like I am about this one. I like it better when I just sort of forget about the eggs. Lol. This waiting is rough. I always feel pretty sure about any that make It to lock down hatching, but I usually lose more than one before lockdown. I'm getting 100% fertility and that's really awesome! But with only 8 adult chickens, 4 roosters and 4 hens it would be a miracle if an egg wasn't fertile I guess. My first rooster was old and sterile. All 4 I have now are young. Actually sort of stair stepped. Head rooster is the oldest at 2 years then a marans mix that's around 1.5 years, then a salmon faverolle that is around 1.2 years, then an EE that is just under a year. Either way I'm getting awesome fertility and no blood rings this time. Only the one meat spot early death so far. I read a thing saying eggs with meat spots are no good for hatching, but I also read that porous eggs are no good for hatching. Porous seems to do fine. Meat spits not so fine.

we go into lock down on sat for our shipped eggs. they look good considering 2 were smashed on arrival. we had 2 clears that we culled last night.. but there are still 8 developing and were moving all around!!

we have 3 more weeks to go for the duck eggs. pulled one blood ring last night but 10 look like they are developing... and we set 6 eggs under a broody yesterday! come one June 16th!

My EE lays every other day, so it took me well over a week to collect the eggs to set. Stored them in the fridge like I usually do.

My broody has been setting the whole time and before I started collecting....though I have been removing the eggs from under her.

Collected the final EE egg today, so I took the carton out of the fridge to let it warm up in the basement, hoping to put them under her today.

....unfortunately, today is the day broody seems to have decided to give up. She's not sitting on the 3 golf balls at all.

Her young daughter has been broody for 2 days, but I don't think she stays on the eggs at night. Will have to check. I really want to put these eggs under a hen.

Think it would be okay to put the eggs in an empty nest and wait for older broody to come back? If she sees the clutch, she might. I'm not sure at what temperature they start to develop.

Not sure if I would just set the eggs there and hope for the best...but I also don't refrigerate eggs to be hatched so I guess do whatever you think will work. And are you sure she abandoned the nest and isn't just taking a break?

98-99 degrees Fahrenheit

You are right 68-70 degrees will start the process but not successfully. Just messed up your ability to store the eggs to hatch later. When an egg is laid it is the same temp as the hens body. Usually around 105. Seems like they would keep eggs too hot during setting. Strange how it all works out.

I just went to turn my eggs and one of the Muscovy duck eggs started wiggling!! It's only day 25, they're not supposed to hatch for another 10 days! Should I be worried?? How early can you expect wiggles?

I am just sick. The hubs was having a fit about a mess the kids left in the basement and in an angry fit of cleaning dumped my incubator on the floor. More than half my eggs are smashed. The rest are covered in goo and yuck. :hit

I candled and put some back in to see what will happen, but I expect the whole bunch will be trashed. :( Goodbye guinea army and BCMs.

Omg. I am so sorry. My husband is acting a little crazy about my eggs. Do you think they get jealous?
