June Hatch-A-Long

I've set 15 new eggs this morning, still waiting for the bator to get back up to temp, it got to and held 100-102 with 6 eggs, until the two eggs died when the temp spiked, the last one quit sometimes last night, as the bator couldn't hold the temp up, even with the water bags I had in there as thermal mass. I'm hoping to have success with these ones.

I have 9 leghorn eggs, and brown eggs from 6 of my various hens.

Oh happy day!!!! I have my first hatched chicks. Born on June 1, 2014. We got 5 baby silky chicks and they are the cutest things ever. Love them all. Some tenative names are:
1. Bonnie Blue (she was the first born to my silky hen and rooster Rhett and Scarlett)
2. Olivia
3. Heaven
4. Faith
5. Miracle
If 1 or 2 end up being roos they will be "Munch and Blaze"

I am one proud momma who loves her Chickie babies!!

I think they are a little shy.

Omg everyone's chicks are so cute. Its crazy how fluffy and adorable mine were a few weeks ago and now they're, sorry to say, hideous. I guess its an awkward phase like people go through.

lol..yes, they do go through a not so pretty stage, even the silkies. Mine went through it, but are now getting more fluffy. I hatched some EE's right at the end of May, they are still cute. Won't be long they will have the fuzzy feathers mixed with the stick em up pin feathers.

chickiebaby your silkies are darling. :) Nice names too. :)

We have two hatched chicks! They're already running around and pecking at each other. Smaller black one came from a little blue egg, bigger one with stripes from a bigger almost white egg. Five to go!

Seeing everyone's chicks is so much fun! I got twenty meat peeps today and they're really getting me excited about my eggs hatching! 10 more days...

Hey! It's June 2nd which is my 13th day out of 18/21.
I candled ALL my eggs, since most nights I only candle some. I made a list which ones are good, bad and questionable.
I started with 24 eggs. As I went along with the hatching I came across 4 bad eggs in which tonight i found another 2 which made 6 but then went back to 5 because I think 1 is iffy because I can't really see anything in the egg meaning I can't get a good look in. It's blackish while the other 4 are really bad.

I have 13 good eggs and 6 iffys only because I can't see through them good and can't tell if they are moving because of my hand or because there's something in there.

It's funny. I always have 50% hatch rate. Not sure if its because of my incubator or because of the farm. So I might have 1 full dozen of duds but not sure because I do have 4 iffys. So this week I'm shopping for a brooder box from walmart or target and a light from home depot because the light i used last year from Target (brand new) stopped working after a week. Don't need any more power outage. I always use a heating pad under the cage in one end on level 2 of 4 and probably going to use dog pads again since I don't have any wood shavings. What do you think?

Today I set 7 eggs under a broody hen. I received them from a friend. 6 are various shades of green and one is a brown(the mystery egg). They came from ameraucana hens with an ameraucana x Rhode Island Red rooster. I'm hoping for some green eggs and can't wait to see what the mystery egg brings. My expected hatch date is June 23rd.
