June Hatch-A-Long

So I'm on day 18 lock down.... I see someone is asking about sexes. Last year some guy said if a chick is multicolored it means it's a rooster? I don't think that's correct though. lol.
anyway, i saw one of my eggs roll a bit today... :) congratulations on those little cuties!! I can't wait for mine to hatch....

There are plenty of multi colored girl chicks...but if a check seems very pretty they are usually boys. So if you see a bunch of chicks, try not to pick the prettiest one or the ones that seem to stand out. Hens are usually drab colors. Pretty but in a low key way...but a flashy chick with lots of color usually a boy

Ok. The black and white chick is definitely a salmon faverolle easter egger mix. It has a pea comb. So no chance it is from any of my other roosters. Interesting that each hatch I have at least one SF x EE mix. I still think most are buff mixed. 2 I'm sure of. They have the salmon body but are orange colored. I love mixed chickens. Let me say it again...I love love love mixed chickens.

One of my eating egg customers commented my eggs were always perfect, but one lady she got eggs from once, a lot of the eggs had chicks or veining in them. With how much I'm thinking about it when I'm trying to get these to grow, I'm a little jealous of the lady who was doing it accidentally. I never had one that was growing accidentally, only one with a larger bullseye than normal.
She had to be collecting eggs that had started under a broody, or perhaps in very hot days? Eggs just don't start developing on their own without a heat source. I have seen larger fertile spots than others... this being just different stages of the blastoderm, but it needs Mama hen or incubator to get any veining or chicks! I think that would ruin my breakfast a bit!

One of my friends in south carolina sent me some eggs to hatch and a few look like they already have some veining because eggs don't know the difference between sitting under a 100 degree hen or sitting in a 100 degree coop. All they know is that it is 100 degrees.

Woo hoo. Re-candled my other set of eggs started the 4th set to hatch on the 25th. 16 are shipped 13 are mine. 24 are showing good development, but one has a meat spot, and one has a cracked and I know here within a few days they will quit, but right now I can count them. I think one not showinh any development actually does have an unattached aircell. So time will tell on that one. Either way 24 is good especially since it's still a little early to be candling. Not going to do it again until the 13th.

You know a carpentry level has the water and the bubble In it and you know whatever is level when the bubble is in the middle? Well an unattached air cell is like that. An air bubble that moves all over the egg instead of staying in the tip of the fat end.
