June Hatch-A-Long

Well the latest set shipped eggs that most of the air cells were detached and I thought wouldn't do anything at least one of them is developing. Since I've been hatching every egg I get I have no eggs to eat, and I was nursing a sick turkey that has been trying to starve himself to death, but loves egg yolks...so I was going to give him one out of the incubator. One I figured wasn't doing anything, I set these on the 8th with no hope, picked one at random and candle it before feeding it to sir starves a lot and wouldn't you know it? Good veining... so that's good. I wish my younger birds would start laying. Only getting 2 eggs a day is bull crap...takes me week to get an omelet..and who am I kidding I hatch them all...lol

Hi everyone...hope you don't mind if I join you. I have 39 eggs in the incubator now set to hatch late on Saturday/early Sunday. I've got a few eggs that are starting to move a little. This is my first incubator hatch, I hatched out one baby with my broody and got hooked :)

So it's 10 am on June 10. 11:30 am makes day 21 and nothing. No pips, no zips and no cheeps. I am soon close to grabbing one out and candling it.

Yep. I would. I just went ahead and candled my duck eggs since I'm not sure when they should go into lock down anyway. Just did it quick. Raised the humidity after, didn't bother with the before. I've done it with chicks..they were fine. Personlly..and this is me folks...! I would at this point, be pipping them myself. I open the end, get the beak out, and let them hang out for a day..chipping away a little at a time through out the day. I have gotten great hatches this way. Some wonder why I have good hatches..because I don't wait. Me...personally. I have a feeling, there are a few out there...more than a few, that do the same.

he is! His plumage is perfect. His body wing tail and head shapes are perfect. He needs his wattles and comb worked on in the offspring. One of the wattles is half the size of the other so it needs to be brought back even and as big as his big one. His comb could use a little more definition in the spines but he is so close to sop especially for a so hard to find breed.

I'm having a horrible time with my eggs this time. I just candled and 3 more are dead. I'm down to 13 out of 27. I think it's the location of my incubator. I have no where to put it. In general we're having trouble keeping our house cool. I will never do a summer hatch again. I had them in my room on my dresser last hatch and I got a huge success 31/34. But they were so loud during hatching which took about 3 days. My baby sleeps with me so we both got no sleep. This time I put them in my closet. Its hot and maybe bad ventilation? I think the eggs were overheated when I got them too. Its just too hot here. I think it was 111° last week.

Two eggs are definitely rocking! So cool!
Ever since I put them in lockdown yesterday morning my temps have been messed up. :( I realized too late that I didn't use warm water to fill my jars and sponges, but the more I think about it, I think my main thermometer/hygrometer isn't working correctly. All along I've used that one, along with the thermometer that came with the unit, and would sporadically put a meat thermometer into one of the vent holes to double check. All three always measured the same. Now my thermometer/hygrometer has been everywhere from 97-105 degrees over the past 24 hours. The other two have stayed the same, so I'm wondering if the high humidity has thrown off my other one? So I don't know how correct the humidity reading is either. :(
