June Hatch-A-Long

I'll be hatching eggs in June. I'm hoping to get eggs on Monday (05-19-2014) so they will hatch in June. :)
I am testing out the incubator now after a year hiatus (since we had a hard winter up north NJ here). Usually start hatching in March but starting in May. Going to get hopefully 3 dozen eggs or 2.5 dozen.

Good luck! Im also up in north NJ and it was a very hard winter with the chickens !

Candled tonight, pulled 8 eggs out, 40 eggs left in the incubator..

Going to set around 20 eggs tomorrow I think. Depending on if the current batch is done hatching by then. So I will have a June hatch. So I'm going to join over here with you fine folks. Just mixes from my now small flock. 2 salmon faverolles, one ee, and a barnyard bantam mix, all presided over by a buff orpington rooster. It sometimes causes issues with a big chick stuffed in a little egg. But it all works out in the end. You wouldn't think that a rooster that big and my tiny bantam would be making babies, but I'm slowly gaining a totally orange flock of chickens. Sucks because my other roosters are so pretty and the orp is so plain, but he's a good rooster with great fertility that looks out for his hens and is large and in charge enough to face down just about anything he encounters...so orange chickens here I come.

Well set 18 eggs of the same mixed origin. Have high fertility, but last hatch out of 15 one for a blood ring by day 4 and out of the 14 left 13 hatched...so hoping this one will go about the same. I've had really great hatches so far. The people at Brinsea really know their stuff, so I've become spoiled and expect all eggs that reach lock down to hatch. Hatched 100% on my first try incubating and never lost more than one so far...so come on Brinsea.

I've got my first set going in my new Brinsea. I was really looking forward to using for the first time for that exact reason. It's so frustrating to lockdown a batch of perfect eggs and then end up with a miserable hatch. But, I had to fill the Brinsea with a bunch of scrambled shipped eggs with rolling, detached, misshapen air cells. Ho hum :/

You guys!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a forming, swimming, hearbeating chick in one of my eggs!!!!!!!! I candled it today (day 6) and there it was! It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! I am over the moon excited! I have 2 other eggs that have pulsing veins but didn't see an obvious embryo when I took a quick peek and was too nervous to do it for very long. Oh goodness, I am just so happy! :-D

Awesome!! So happy for you! I hatched silkies my first time too. Unfortunately, I only had one out of 12 hatch, but they were shipped eggs so who knows what happened between when they were laid and when they arrived at my house. Are your eggs shipped or were they laid locally? My second hatch, which was all eggs from my chickens, hatched much better, and they were all silkie crosses so I'm thinking my low hatch rate was because of shipping rather than breed.

Yay!'

Yes, they were shipped. I had figured with it being my first hatch and shipped eggs the hatch would be low. But I said I would be happy with just one or two. I am raising them solely to be pets. I would like 2 due to their social nature. I have wanted a chicken since I was a little girl. Some people love cats or dogs....I love chickens!
