I have a dumb question, I set my eggs on the 11th of May. So am I correct when I expect them on June 1st?? I'm just checking to make sure I counted correct. My eggs aren't bantam they are full sized birds.
Tia!

sounds like if your best hatch came from shipped eggs than your eggs are the issue more than your humidity. But I get amazing results using a brinsea octagon eco. I've become spoiled. If I have 2 eggs that don't hatch I'm sad because so far the most I've had not make it is 1. So if I set 20 eggs I'm fully expecting at least 19 chicks. So for real, if you get tired of tinkering try out a brinsea. My very first time incubating I had 18 eggs make it to lockdown, and from reading on here I never thought I would get all of them to hatch, but they did, every last one very first try. With my own eggs I have one not hatch every once in awhile, but I think it's because I have a huge rooster over some pretty small hens. A ridiculously small barnyard bantam, 2 hatchery salmon faverolles (so they're small) and then what looks like a buff orpington ee mix. So she's big. I end up with some huge chick's and some that are so tiny. Lol. But that also means some chick's run out of room and pip in the wrong end, or can't get turned to pip at all.

Tossed 8 of the 37 quail eggs (not sure if any are actually going to hatch), 11 of 12 AMs are great, 3 of 4 OEs are doing well, and 11 of 15 Delawares are good. Might be a decent batch of babies.

In other news my EEs that were suppose to arrive today - didn't. Go figure. I searched the USPS site and through the tracking number discovered that the eggs were in Knoxville being reprocessed because someone can't do their job.

that sucks. I haven't tried shipped eggs yet. It's a lot of money on such a risk. Actually the only eggs I've bought were mixed eggs 2 dozen for $20. And that went wonderfully. Got 18 marans mixes. Have one left. Sold the rest. Kept a really pretty rooster. Let me find a picture of him. I don't know if he's mixed or not. Some of the chickens were full on marans, as the guy had 2 roosters over his laying flock, a blue copper and black copper marans. He has feathered feet and black legs anyway here's a picture

well it won't upload the picture, so whatever.

Well all 18 eggs are doing well so far as far as I can tell. It's still really really early though so who knows. Even the porous ones look good. Although harder to see what I'm looking at since everything is so spotty

OK. A lot of times you read about how you can't hatch porous eggs... well we get to test this. ..a lot of my eggs were porous this time. But I checked tonight, so day 3.5 and all 18 are showing veins. Also anyone know why the last batch of eggs gathered from my hens to hatch weren't porous, but this set is? I also noticed that when I get fewer eggs a day the eggs I do get are porous. I'm thinking it is dietary. I often don't feed my chickens in the spring and summer. A little bit every few days, but if the feeder is empty for a couple days oh well. We have 4 acres they can sift through and they're all big and shiny with full crops all the time, so they don't go hungry, but I'm thinking their immediate diet at the time of lay makes the eggs porous or not. But I'm going to see if i can debunk the don't hatch porous eggs thing. We will see

I love experiments! I did one last year when I had some shipped eggs arrive very dirty. I decided to expiriment and see if washing them had any effect. Some I left plain, and the others were washed in different solutions. Bleach, vinager, soapy water ect. I had a few hatch in every set, so I concluded that it didn't matter much if you choose to wash your eggs or not before hatching, though, I bet it keeps the bacteria out if you just set clean eggs.

I have set some porous eggs from some of my own hens on occasion. I don't think I have ever had more problems with the porous ones, but I do keep my nests pretty clean to begin with and the eggs from my ladies are rarely dirty. I would think that if you eat a clean porous egg it would likely hatch, but maybe not if it were a dirty one. Good luck!

On a side note, I candled the guinea eggs today and pulled out 3 that were very clear. The others I am not positive on, but looked to have some veining happening in them. I didn't bother to check that Marans tonight, and will be heading down to fill the empty incubator spots with my SBELs.
