June Hatch-A-Long

Hi All,
The school hatch didn't go so well. Only 4 of 28 Ameracauna eggs hatched. I am not sure what happened but I think the turner was left on until Day 20...would that have caused the low hatch rate? At least it is a great educational tool for the kids!

Sally Sunshine had an article says that turner could be left turning until day 18.Day 20 not sure. The chicks get in position to hatch .Not sure if turning would disrupt that or not.

The good news is i have 2 Lemon Cuckoo orps hatched and one Lavender orp on day 23. .The bad news is again ...13 eggs havent done a thing Day 24. Still nothing.Not too confident.Humidity was too high i think.The chicks that hatched seemed too wet but doing fine now .
Funny the more I dinker to get a good hatch the worst the hatch is ...CRAZY maybe i should let them alone and not worry weigh check humidity dah dah di dah

BUT 3 is good not zero anyway!!.
Now just dont let all 3 be roos like my last hatch.!GUH

But you know, I've actually had chicken eggs almost that dirty and they still hatched. They were buried by one of the ducks...she had made her nest under the deck and would burying the eggs between lays. A chicken found the nest and contributed a few eggs to it and then when the duck went broody I was afraid to wash the eggs so just left them alone. They still managed to hatch out, dirt and all.

My chickens free range so it also sometimes happens plus I also still get a good hatch rate!!!

My last two eggs to hatch don't seem to be doing anything..........how long should i give them before i intervene? Can i candle them? My other chicks have dried off and are probably ready for the brooder now. The last one hatched about 3-4 hours ago.

This is my broody EE She went broody on the 3rd of June and is due on the 23rd of June cant wait!

  I was getting worried about my last 2 eggs, but the one that had started to pip hours ago now has a proper hole! I still don't see it moving or anything though, I'm hoping the hole wasn't made by the other chicks from the outside.....

And i can now see my 6th chick pecking at the hole it's made. It's coming! Phew, i was getting worried!

Still another one left, hopefully it will pip soon too!
