June Hatch-A-Long

Well I just put 16 Lavender Orrpington eggs and 10 eggs from my Quail which I do not know if they are fertile. The Orrps should hatch about the 26th and the quail, if they are fertile should hatch the 23rd. Now waiting for my Olive Eggers and Pene which are due to hatch the 12th.

I have eggs set to hatch June 25th (I hope!). I wanted to add a few White Leghorns to my flock, so I am testing out my new little Brinsea with some Trader Joe's eggs. Trying not to get too excited until I can candle them and at least see veining.

I used my new brinsea on my last hatch, and have eggs in it now. It's amazing, temp and humidity always spot on. But now I don't have near enough to fret over (according to my hubby).

My hatch didnt go very well
.Never got the air cells down and stupidly set the humidity at 65 like normal but with small air cells i think 60 or less would have been way better...so 3 hatched very early on day 23
.
Its afternoon of day 24 now and quiet in there.
However hatched are 2 Lemon Cuckoo Orps which is what i traded for so hoping i have one of each sex Got one LO which im hoping is a girl since last singleton LO was a boy.

NOW not to be defeated im setting more LO eggs im collecting as we speak set them tomorrow if this hatch is done Try try again!

Well I did my 7 day candling. Not too good. Only 16 out of 27. I have 3 bloodrings and 8 clears. The quail are only on day 4 so I haven't done them. I had 34 out of 36 eggs go into lockdown last time. I wonder why the eggs are so crappy? I really think heat is a factor. Maybe the roosters can't get the job done? It's over 100° out here. They are from two different local breeders. The 16 look perfect though. Movement, veins, and the perfect day 7 sized air cells. So I can only conclude it's not me or my incubator. I have no clue about the cause of 3 blood rings.

Brinsea has spoiled me too. Set it and forget it. Except I have to turn. Didn't get the turner. Either way awesome hatches great temp steady awesome incubator. Although right now I'm also using a food dehydrator and so far perfect temps in that too...time will tell

Help. I have 2 chicks that have pip'ed (made holes) and haven't made much progress in over 8 hours. Should I help them? What should I do. Out of 41 eggs I have only had 1 hatch on it's own.

Silly me, I was thinking that my few eggs went into lock down today..not..but tomorrow. :D

That's ok, they are already in the bator that they will hatch in. Due to hatch on Mon.

Don't panic, they rest in between stages. I don't help until after 12 or more hours, or if it's peeping is getting really weak. Usually "helping" does more harm than good, the babies know when to hatch. I helped two this past hatch. One had really bad wry neck and couldn't zip, the other was too darn big to move. I helped only because everyone else had hatched, and those two were still at pip after more than 12 hours.
