June Hatch-A-Long

I just set 19 pekin duck eggs. It's addicting hatching things! I'm hoping that I have better luck than the school did. They has 25 eggs and not a single one hatched. So I'm trying to hatch some. Does anyone have any tips on hatching ducks???

I have 10 duck eggs in now. it is my first time, so I really dont have any good pointers. I was told to mist the eggs a little. I took them out of the turner when my shipped eggs went into lockdown, so now I just give a little spirtz after I turn them. i candled the other 9 and 9 out of the 10 look great. .1 is iffy.. so its stays for now. Good luck!!

The neighbor's dog killed my favorite black orpington hen. (JoAnna R.I.P.) So, I set 8 black orpington eggs on June 3rd. Husband does not understand chicken math

I have 11 hatched and 5 more pipped and they weren't supposed to hatch till tomorrow!!! Grrr I wanna be there to watch but I'm at work!

But this way you won't be tempted to open the incubator.

I woke up to an incubator full of baby quail this morning. They were supposed to have hatched on Wednesday, so mine are late.

There are a couple that pipped externally early yesterday and despite decent sized holes, they still haven't made it out...and the membranes are starting to turn dark although the chicks are still peeping and moving around inside. I'm hesitant to open the incubator and risk messing up any others that might be getting ready to hatch just in case these can eventually make it out on their own, but at the same time, I don't want to these to expire in their shells if all they need is just a wee bit of assistance...

So today- Friday June 6 is day 17. I checked on the eggs and the temp was 100 and humidity was 25...... I don't know if this is good or not. Tomorrow at 11 am is day 18. . Very excited. I have either Rhode Island reds or leghorns. Won't know until they hatch. I am planning on candles one last time tonight and locking down tomorrow at 11 am or so.

Do u lock down early or later on day 18?

I usually lock down the middle of the night on day 17. I candle at night and I'm a night owl. So I locked down 17 eggs around 1 am on 6-5 which technically day 18 was 6-5 but not until like noon. But I checked in on them today and I'm guessing they will begin hatching late tonight or tomorrow
Most are Internally pipped and cheeping away. I don't usually check on the after lock Down but this time I was curious. All of my eggs usually hatch on day 20. Sometimes a few don't hatch until early day 21 but all are pipped and the majority out by day 20. Which will be tomorrow. So... yay! Had never seen what an internal pip looks like personally. And now I know. Lol

*update*
One external pip so far! 16 more to go!

I have no idea about quail eggs OzarkCountryGirl
But my last chick that i assisted this morning has finally freed herself from her egg! I'm really happy! Hopefully it's a girl!

Great news, @Demidog ! I'm so glad your chick made it! I went ahead, took and chance, and helped just a little bit on shells of two and they've since popped out just as pretty as you please and are bouncing around with the others (although I did find one that had pipped on the underside and had already expired). But I've had another two zip and hatch all on their own since, so maybe I was quick enough opening the incubator without losing too much humidity for the others.

Thanks! And congratulations on your chicks too! :)

Here is the chick that i assisted. Once it's properly dried off I'll stick it in with the others :)
