June Hatch-A-Long

Unfortunately it's day 19 for my buttons, and there is no sign of them hatching. Hatch date was day 16-17, but recently I found my incubator temps were at 98 the whole time, and not 101 like I intended.

Is there any hope for these guys? I'm worried I killed them.
with the temp being too low I would think that would just lengthen the incubation period as opposed to killing them.

Eeee!! Thank you for saying it wouldn't hurt to go into lockdown early!!! Today around 4 we got our first chick trying to crack its way out!! Will be keeping an eye on it because it's trying to pip out in kind of the middle of the egg.. Sry not best picture it's at the bottom of the egg:/

I had to train the boys and Hubby over the weekend on how to take care of everything. Plus I have 2 dozen going into lock down on Thursday.

Keep us all in your prayers...

This wil be my first hatch ever! I had an australorp go broody, and I've never had the luck of getting a hen go broody!! She's due to hatch any day now!! And isn't it my luck that my GL Wyandotte has now gone broody this past week, due July 10th! The excitement kept me up all last night! I'll update on the hatch! I literally dream of chickens!

All these hatchings are making me extra anxious! We go into lockdown on Wednesday with 16 eggs (12 definitely good when I last checked on day 10, other 4 too hard to see through the dark shells). Hatch day should be on Saturday and my 6yo wants to invite a few friends over for a 'hatch day party'. Considering we are total newbies, I'm nervous about having several little girls watching if anything goes wrong, and also... who knows if any will actually be hatching at that point (what if they don't start hatching until Saturday night? That would make for a pretty boring 'hatch day party').

How soon before they actually start breaking though the shells do you see movement or hear cheeping? I'm wondering if it would be possible to get an indication of hatch time on Friday or Saturday morning so we can play it by ear for the 'hatch day party'.

If hatch day will be either fri or sat, then what about a sleepover? If you're worried about things going wrong, just let the kids know ahead of time that things don't always turn out as expected with these kind of things. I'm sure. They'll understand and still be excited, even if disappointment is involved. It's all part of life! Just make sure their parents know ahead of time so there are no surprises there either. It's a great learning activity!

Woot woke up to 2 new pips!! Come on little chickies!! Oh and first egg is still chirping and wiggling but hasn't started zipping yet..
