June Hatch-A-Long

Here is my lonely baby, hatched out of a brown egg, no clue who the mama is, but Daddy looks like a Columbian Rock. Not so much as a pip from the other eggs, still, but this one was in the smallest egg too. Back to the waiting game

Final candling tonight, lockdown in the morning! Tossed 4 more eggs (mostly the ones I wasn't sure of on day 10, plus the cracked egg was a quitter). Total of 12 eggs left for lock down. I wasn't sure of two of them, but I left them in just drawing a little question mark on the shells.

I feel like I may have some early and some later hatchers due to the size difference inside some of the eggs. Some of the eggs look mostly filled and others have significantly more room but look healthy otherwise (can see movement, etc). What do I do if a few hatch on day 19 and the others aren't ready until a day or two later. It's my understanding that I shouldn't open the incubator until all have hatched, but I also don't want to leave hatched chickies in there for days while waiting for the other eggs. Is it normal to have different development rates like that?

Since I'm a first timer, can someone please confirm my plan for lockdown tomorrow morning?
Remove egg turner, fill water reservoirs fully, add a paper towel on top of the mesh rack (to help with clean up), replace eggs and lid. Fan should stay on, heat should be ~99.5, vents open, don't open lid until hatching is done.
Your plan is perfect. And I have my fingers crossed for a great hatch for you!

Edit: I've pulled dry chicks from the incubator as long as no eggs have an external pip. Just be really fast getting that cover back on.

Day 20 and got the first baby hatched from the old Brower incubator tonight! Thanks to everyone who helped with my questions about using it! I never could get the humidity up or down during the first 18 days...always stayed around 35 REGARDLESS of what i did. (Add water, don't add water...no difference!) I've tried to get it up for lock down using the suggestions, but its only at 40%. Looks like there are at least five more pips right now. I'll see what the morning brings! :D

Well we are on lockdown, now. About two more days before hatching. However, I have some seramas.. so shouldn't they be hatching earlier?

Anyone with experience hatching seramas?

So... I was wondering if a Rouen crossed with Welsh Harlequin would look like a Silver Appleyard duckling?? I had a duckling hatch out that was supposed to be Pekin but clearly wasn't. I contacted the lady who sold me the eggs and she said that she does have some Welsh harlequin drakes and hens and some Rouen hens. Is it possible for a Welsh/Rouen cross to look like an appleyard duckling... Or is it possible that she mistook Appleyard ducks for Welsh Harlequins???
What does this look like to you?

Well guys just had my worst hatch so far. Not going to use the dehydrator anymore. Ever...lol. it worked but nowhere near as well as my brinsea. So no point in using it. Out of 29 eggs set I lost a lot as blood rings and had 10 times as many late quitters as I've ever had. Anyway only 14 eggs went into lock down and only 6 of those hatched. 4 pipped internally and died for no apparent reason. Had another weird one actually hatch, not as weird as the mutant one of course this one had a bit of brain coming out the top of its head and one bulging eye...did manage to hatch and then promptly died... so terrible terrible hatch. More of the shipped eggs hatched than did my own eggs as well. So it wasn't because the eggs were shipped. I'm hoping it was the dehydrator and not something strange going on with my eggs... anyway...

My woods broody should definitely get some sort of award as she also is now taking care of he 6 that did hatch. That gives her 15 bantam babies and 6 large fowl chicks... and she somehow is covering them all. In a few days I will sneak back out the 6 large fowl that hatched today once I do some broader shuffling. Because there's no way she can cover all 21 once they start to grow a little. No way. She's just barely got them all now. There's apparently a lot more room under that tiny chicken than there appears
