jungle fowl are not breeds except maybe the Saipan breed that is called a jungle fowl. The red jungle fowl is the same species as the barnyard chicken .They are not a mean or fighting breed they are the chicken evolved for survival in nature. get a wheaten or BB red and you basically have the red jungle fowl. There are a couple breeds that i was just looking at that even retain the tail feathering and the posture of the wild type RJF.
Other jungle fowl like the green and the grey are not different breeds but different species neither of which will you find as a pure species available for the backyard . you may find high percent wild blood hybrids though for a lot of money, they are wild birds so don't expect to free range them or to coop them in the avg coop and yard dimentions and have them be happy.
here's my RJF pet with his ladies

Hes a RJF, but no his ladies? I dunno,

Actually RJF are quite different from backyard chickens. Can your chickens fly straight into the air? Fly for miles? Mine cant, but my (soon to be) RJF hen can.

There are a lot of classifications in order for a bird to be a RJF. It is not the same as your regular backyard or barnyard chickens. Your backyard/barnyard chickens however did originate from Jungle Fowls.

A regular BBred OEG or BBred Bantam does not cut it. And in my opinion, wheatens are DEFINITELY NOT RJF. Wheaten hens are completely different in colors than a RJF hen. You can tell yourself that it is a RJF, but in reality it is not. There are hybrids of RJFs in the US too. Yet, they are not classified as RJF's anymore.

From my studies on the RJF, one of the biggest difference that sets this bird apart from the backyard/barnyard is the crow. The birds crow is very distinct and different from most other chickens. OEG bantams crows are very similar sometimes. However, the body size difference sets the birds apart from each other. Not to mention, their white legs are nothing like the RJF's blue/slate legs. Also, many if not all BBred OEG and Wheaten OEG do not have white ear lobes. RJF's do. Also another difference is the white poof where their tail starts and where their saddle ends.

This is my BBred Phoenix Bantam. He can pass for a RJF if you were to "tell yourself" that you have a RJF. His comb is nothing like a RJFs as well
However, once his primary sickle feathers grow back, he won't look like that anymore... He'll look like a phoenix once again.

he's awesome love the comb. Color though is near exactly what my serama in the previous pic has and white tail puff too . I am under no delusion that the by chicken and the RJF are the same, merely making the point that we all have RJF in our BYchickens . They are the same species as dogs are wolves . Some are more like or dislike the original but all the same species .
Many people want without having the means to keep in good care so BYchicken roosters are a geat option .
The RJF hen is one of the most beautiful hens I have ever seen, game fowl hens have many simiar qualities. someone should develope a bantam RJF impersonator. should be easy.

Thank you very much. I love the little guy and his color as well :)
I understand where you are coming from. However, I have a few clarifications here.
We all do not have RJF, only some breeders have true RJF's. A chihuahua is a dog, a species of the wolves... We do not merely make the point that we have a pet wolf in our backyard. It simply is a Chihuahua, even though it originated from wolves X amount of years ago. An silkie is a chicken, all chickens originated from JF's... We do not merely make the point that we have a pet JF in our backyard. It simply is an silkie, even though it originated from JF's X amount of years ago. One more thing, you can not recreate a RJF from a silkie no matter how hard you try. It might be possible if this project was taken on for thousands of years. And even if this project was accomplished, like you said... it would be a RJF impersonator; not a true RJF so you can't merely call it an RJF.
