~Junglefowl Thread!~

They should do okay without heat. The Greys have a funny short little crow. The crow has shorter and fewer syllables than a chicken crow. Even my 1/4 grey hybrids have very abbreviated crows.

With due respect WC, temperature might be a factor in Wisconsin. I was talking with a guy from Minnesota who said his birds could not take their weather. I would suggest insulating the coup, or at least having a heat lamp, maybe with a thermostat.

I probably pamper my birds too much. How cold does it get in Georgia? Does anyone have any history of how much cold grey jungle fowl can take (or any nightmare stores of them freezing)? I would be real interested in knowing their tolerance for cold. I may turn down the thermostat in my coup.

You all have such lovely birds! I'm definitely considering the species, but am struggling to find someone locally who has any. Just out of curiousity, does anyone have any Bengals? A Bengal is a Gray Junglefowl crossed with a domestic chicken of any breed.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!
I think I MAY get some in a few years!

wclawrence from one of the earlier post on this forum has some crosses. You might check with him. I got my jungle fowl last year from a real nice guy in Texas. I can look up his info if you're interested.

Also, I'm trying to get my jungle fowl and domestic chickens to cohabitate, but it's not going well. If it works out I may have some chicks later in the spring. Likewise if jungle fowl successful mate I should have some chicks this summer. Good luck.
