I too live in Georgia, no single digits is about as cold as it gets here, but I have never heard of my northern buddies saying anything about winter heat for greys or reds either.
Now the ceylons and greens, yes if it hits 32 they need heat, or you'll have an expensive frozen chicken dinner waiting for you the next morning.
Providing heat is always a good deed for any of them, but dont feel it is a requirement for the common ones, BUT in extreme weather, no it never hurts a thing.
