We are retirees in south central North Carolina. I've been looking at BackYard Chickens for a couple months, finding lots of new ideas. We have two 2-year-old Rhode Island Red hens and now six little RIR-Barred Rock cross pullets. The coop is too small for more than 7-8 hens, though I (but not my husband!) have dreams of going a little bigger. Why chickens? We love the eggs and get a kick out of watching them and their unique personalities. We give away excess eggs, finding joy in sharing the blessing.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.

Glad you joined.
