Apparently, they did not leave their yard during this instance but have entered Boyd's yard several times in the past. That is my understanding. That's why I suggested both an invisible fence AND an adult walking the dog instead of the child.
to clarify, there is no physical boundry but the property line is 1 foot east of their driveway. This is approximately where beast met them head on. DD was then pulled off her feet and lost the leash soon thereafter... so it started in that twilight zone of was it mine or theirs.. inches? Do I really know, not really. I just feel bad it happened and feel if they had the dogs on a tie out all 3 of them wouldn't have rushed and this could have been prevented. Do I think they should allow their dogs to roam free in their own yard? Yup I do. Circumstances..........
What what I was alluding to without plainly saying it... and I suppose I do now ... because this may stave off a flame war.
They run deer - Illegal, and aggressive pack mentality.
They run rabbits - Ok, maybe this is sporting, but still pack mentality
unaltered male and female dog with a liter of puppies - The rott was already aggressive and has gone after me in the past. I've punched it on top of the head to stop it from biting my arm. After her litter she's only gotten nastier.
All 3 dogs run into my yard while my dog is chained to his very secure run. They are smart enough to stay out of his reach. I always run these dogs off. Again, aggressive pack mentality. It is enough to send me into fits having to clean up 3x more dog feces than I am used to. What's it do to him? He is SUPPOSED to keep all critters out and away from the front of my house when he's outside.
Like I said, my dog is highly trained. He has learned through trial and error that to attack a target without command has very serious consequences (and no I don't beat him), so it has only happened in 1 other occasion. I also have a very elaborate method of introducing him to new people. When folks come over once in a while, he goes up. I don't want him socialized with everyone. He isn't an everyone type of people dog. He is to serve and protect the 10-12 within my 4 walls. When he is socialized with a new kid for example, he will even protect the kids from ME. Such is his training.
