I understand you are upset, but mistakes happen. No matter how careful someone is, things can get left undone or done improperly. It could have even been you who was distracted at a crucial moment, and failed to shut the lid to the birdseed.
I've messed up a few things myself taking care of people's animals. One time I forgot that the boxer was on a different diet than the rottie, and they at the same food for a week. I failed to realize that freshly made up brooder was missing a chicken, and later found her huddled in the rain. I still get asked to pet sit by this family. I recommend you teach people patiently what to do, give them written instructions, emergency #s, and then hope for the best.
