Just changed my signature line: 26 weeks and no eggs!

First eggs came Thanksgiving (2007) weekend! One of two RIRs "delivered" at 24 weeks. She was making an awful lot of noise that morning and I suspected something was going to happen. The egg was brown with some white speckles all over it. The second egg we got was the same way, and then the third and the rest have been a nice light brown. Today found two eggs (six days after the first) -- so I am assuming that the second "red" is laying. Maybe she's been been laying all along with the second "speckled" one being her first.

Also have two Australorps, but do not think either one has laid an egg. Maybe they mature more slowly? Also, it is Dec. 1 now and I only extend the light a little with a light going on at 5 a.m. and shutting off at 7:30 a.m. That gives them about 12 hours of light and I heard 14 is better. Maybe the Australorps are more sensitive to the light.
