Just curious who else is living super frugal

Yes, I keep passing piles of wood and wishing I had a chainsaw with me and a truck. Can only get 1/'3 cord in my lil hatchback. It's held up being a farm truck, but hauling wood is a bit much for it. Saves on gas though.

Invest in a hitch and a small trailer...they can serve so many purposes and keeps one from having to have a truck. I had an SUV for years and had a 4x8 ft. trailer someone had given me...I moved with that trailer several times, I hauled wood, trash, the mower, manure...you name it, that old wooden trailer hauled it all over this state. It was a Godsend..and FREE!

Good idea but my lil hatchback didn't come with any place to hitch anything. Its a 5-door focus. No place to add on a hitch. Should probably be looking for a used one - maybe that can happen this summer.

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if you can add a hitch to it. By hitch, I mean tow bar, which is what the hitch goes into. Then the trailer attaches to that. Granted, you will be pretty limited to what you can tow with a Focus.

Just read your post....what an amazing thing you've done, you should be proud of yourselves!, its so hard to get out of debt once you're in it but you have proved that it can be done with a lot of sacrifice and hard work...Good luck to you and your family in all your future endeavours

So, that article you posted on the Front Porch Swing - about woodstoves. I read it but was reading so fast I didn't catch the location - California? I think they might have a riot if they tried that in TN.

That's nuts. It's got to be backed by the fracking companies. It's just too weird otherwise.

Nope...states like NY, OR, MA, and such. Mostly New England states. That's where most of the idiocy like this starts.

Wow. That is just nuts. We used to go visit my cousins in upstate NY, everyone and their mother had a woodstove - we're talking a mile between houses and lots of snow in the winter. And acres and acres of trees....

I try to be very frugal. I have to say it was soooo much easier when I was a SAHM. Of course it was a necessity then. Looking back I know we wouldn't have survived if I hadn't been extremely frugal. I did coupons and got a lot of stuff free or cheap. When I went back to work we didn't have to buy toothpaste for 2 years. lol I cloth diapered my daughter and loved that. For a long time I really limited the disposable things we used. I figured if I was washing the dishes and laundry I could cut out the disposable in our lives.

I still shop yardsales for the kids (and my) clothing. I yardsale all summer and then hit the stores to fill in what we still need right before school starts. Our garden helps with food prices and my Dad has a beef farm, so I talk him into bringing me a cooler full of beef now and then. A deep freeze really helps. Unfortunately mine is broke.

Oh and I love hand-me down everything. We have never bought furniture. We just get other peoples cast offs. I'm planning to have a yardsale this summer. Since I try to get things cheap I do tend to over buy. Gotta work on that.
