Thanks for the book info - I just ordered it on amazon for $0.01 plus $3.99 shipping - so four bucks, nasobad!

If anyone else is interested, I think there are two more up there with the same deal.

Edited to add: It's the Charles Long book....

I have to share some of my new adventures with someone who would appreciate and not think I'm crazy..
This weekend I made homemade ketchup, choc syrup, vanilla extract, and buttermilk, gosh, so much fun!
Kids and I have had a blast and saving tons of $ also...

the biggest ingredient is time, but basically its vodka (or rum or brandy) I went with cheap..
a few vanilla beans sliced almost in half lengthwise and just shake it each week until it is as strong as you like
some recipes say 2-3 months others say 6 months.
recipes also vary in how many vanilla beans, I used 2 cause its what I have (and I have enough vanilla to last me several more months)
once its ready just remove the beans, they can be scraped/dried and placed in a jar of sugar after that to make vanilla sugar too.
