Just curious? Who names all their chickens and who doesn't?

we name all of ours! we have old lady, mudpuddle, blackie, beard, black beard, triplet (who is not a tiplet any longer), gimpy, meany, hawk, johnny, cowboy.....the list goes on and on! I name everything even winky the one eyed squirrel.

we have all 13 named. although there are 2 bunches of 3 that i can't tell apart yet, but i've got names for them too. i just don't who is what yet.

we've got the roosters: dai-ichi & 'roo' (he's getting rehomed first). then tallulah, mina, cricket, june, coco, ramona, stella, astrid, camilla and our newest additions sunshine & oona.

My problem is limiting the names to just one per chicken! We got one named Major by the little girl who originally got him as an Easter chick but after we rescued him I kept calling him Rooster Cogburn, then Major, then Roosterzilla (he was a huge Light Brahmin). Then there's Lucy who I also call pretty Mama, little chicken goddess, pretty pretty girl, it goes on! But as everyone notes, if you have treats to scatter, they will run to chickens, chickens, come on chickens!

naming chickens it s easy - remembering is the hard part
polish all begin with p - they all look alike so who cares which is Polly, Priscilla, visitors think it's cool we know their names, the biggests polish roo is daddy poofy his brother is brother poofy. Frizzle Pekins all named after chinese food except the big black frizzle named Oliver, though our Olivia is an americana hen. char sui, shes red of course, chowfun, uh white naturally, ming shes black like a ming bean

Serama hens all named after fruit - serama roos king, prince, kingsley, princeton (the girls named them), all other top hats named after raggae muscians bob marley (the other bob marley is a sheep) ziggy marley, marty dreadlock, etc.

Theres white seramas big brother and big sister to keep it clear they are not lil sister. then theres the rescues ugly bird, crooked beak, golden bird, small fry

new hamshires names are after trees, willow, pine, pepper , on to the silkies - originally all began with s so there is sochi, sookie, sikie, selma, sedwig the roos are lil jerk (dont recall how that became) and daddy silkie is brutus

frizzled serama some derivative of frzz/serama so theres swizzle, frazzle, snazzy, etc
buff orpingtons - well only the matriarch big bird matters so others are called big birds sister, smaller than big bird, nicer than big bird, maybe its big bird

Whats so hard about that? it's not like you cant tell them apart or anything that would take a rocketscientist to come up with ;-}

actually everyone need names for clicker training, showing and the vet bill

mahalo maui serama mama

All 48 animals on my property have names, that includes my 17 hens and 3 roosters.
I even find myself calling the wild birds such as Magpies-Maggie and Wagtails-Willie.
I am one of those people that HAS to name everything LOL.
Each to their own though, at the other end of the scale there are those that don't name anything at all.
(Oh and I do talk to ALL my animals too, so I have to have something to call them by lol).

My husband, kids and I have had fun naming ALL of our chicks and ducks. Years ago it started with a classroom chick named "Punszki" since it hatched on Fat Tues. We've named them after favorite chicken dishes - as a joke: Nuggets, Teriyaki, Spedini, Mole, Shawarma, Fritatta. Now most are named after musicians/composers: Victor Borge, Itzach Pearlman, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Yoyo Ma, Dr. Suzuki, Henry Mancini, Luigi Boccherini, Lovely Rita, Sargent Pepper. Some are just for fun (by my husband): Luxovious, Cosmo, BLT (Big Little Tiny), Deardrie. Then there are: Bubbles, Mumble, Pepper, Zero, Ginger, and finally Clover (our ONLY rooster - a bantam Belgian D'Uccle). We have a beautiful flock of mixed breeds - most are standard chickens - 2 were ducks.

Have fun with your birds!

My daughter names all of our chickens, most have names like Taco, Freeto, Toastito, Dumplin, Nacho.... Wait, I'm seeing a pattern here, or maybe I should just feed her more frequently.

We only name our chickens if they stick out like our Rhode rooster he didnt want ANY of his brothers in the pen with him and the hens so we called him Bull Of The Woods and our laying white wyandotte we call her Snowball

We name all of ours, and we tend to lose all of the favorites as roosters...
Right now we have Bandit, Dot, Stripe, Winter, Suzie, Scout, Rose, Ashes, and Peanut. xD
