Just finished chicken coop!

If you can get one sheet of 4x8 something (plywood, OSB?), you can use that and the existing piece of roofing to make nice overhangs on the roof.

Right now, where I live, that would be $50-60. Not cheap, for sure, but it would give you a lot of options for ventilation.

On another thread, someone posted that they have gotten a lot of FREE wood from big box stores by asking for and taking away the crates the stores get yard/garden equipment in, like lawnmowers. Just tossing that out.

DH built me a garden shed out of two crates that a new machine at work came in.

Update: I decided to open up both windows to add more ventilation. The windows count as 1 sqft of ventilation each, and the vent counts as 2.[long list decimals] sqft, so I have a total of a little over 4sqft and will add more if I decide to increase flock size.
Stupid question I'm sure...but how do I go about determining the sqft of ventilation I have on my coop for 3 silkies and 1 polish?

If you have say, a 2' by 2' opening (like a window thats always open) then that would be enough. Preferably its more spread out and higher up though. So you could do a 6' opening near the top that stretches the length of both 4' sides, and that would be enough, I think.

Gotcha...yeah my coop is one of those "rinkydink" ones so I'm having to make holes for ventilation in the window and around top portion of roofing.
Pic doesn't show it ...but I drilled 4 holes in each of the 4 sections of the window at 1/8" then I added 8 additional 1/8" holes along underneath front of the roofing.
There is an ever so slight Crack along the nesting box area as well (where I have it blocked off with chicken wire til they are laying). Do you think I need more?
If I do more, or even just take the window piece out all together and replace with chicken wire, then how will they stay warm during winter?
Just trying to get best of both worlds.
Thank you for explaining.
