Here are 8 babies we hatched on January 24th. this was our 1st hatch and it was so much fun.
We picked up the fertile eggs from a local farm, they are a real barnyard mix.

Just for fun I would love some opinions on the breed and sex of the babies.
Here is what I know: The Roosters are a French Black Copper Maran, a Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte, and a Swedish Flower
The hens are a mix.

1 Beautiful copper feathers coming thru. There were golden laced Wyandotte hens on the property.
This one definitely hatched out of a brown egg.

2 really not familiar with this comb but certainly rooish to me.

3 some feathering on legs

4 this guy is a silvery blue color, very pretty

5 on the left hatched from a blue egg (True Ameraucana hen)

6 on the right also hatched from a blue egg (True Ameraucana hen)

7 feathered legs

8 my favorite but definitely a suspected roo. Beautiful reds and blues.
Loves to be held and falls asleep.

If they are crossbreds then the Ameraucanas are not Ameraucanas but Easter Eggers. Their legs are a bit yellow for Easter Eggers but they still might lay blue eggs if they hatched from blue eggs. You might also get some greenish or pink eggs from them or maybe plain old cream colored ones depending on what breeds they are crossed with. Here is a link that will help you distinguish between Ameraucanas & Easter Eggers.http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html Good luck with your chicks. You have a really cute eclectic mix there. : )

My guesses: 1 Wyandotte, female
2 Wyandotte/ black copper marans hard to tell
3 BCM, female
4 Wyandotte/ BCM female
5 Easter egger/ BLR Wyandotte female
6 Easter egger/ BLR Wyandotte
7 BCM, female
8 swedish flower/ male

I really wish the hatcheries would stop claiming their Easter Eggers are Ameraucanas. It misleads so many people and makes for a ton of confusion when it comes to breed identification for new chicken owners unaware of the difference between Araucanas, Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers.

Thanks for all the guesses. This was so much fun for my 1st hatch.
I do realize that my # 5 & 6 chiks are a mix breed due to the fact we do not have a Ameraucana roo.
Plus when you get a barn yard mix you never really know what is going to pop up. :)

I plan on keeping at least one roo so I will need to keep eyes on their personalities.
I can't wait to integrate them into my existing flock. My last experience bringing in two was a long process but very successful.

Hopefully this winter will end and they will someday be outside.
