What I meant to also say is you can reach out to a bird sanctuary or find falconry groups and if it has to come down to it then they will get food. Roosters are not allowed in my neighborhood/county so I can’t have roosters at all. I do keep one or 2 until they fertilize some eggs and then I rehome them or if I can’t find a home they go to my friends hawk and our bird sanctuary to feed their birds. So I know that this may not be ideal however I have a friend with her falconry license. Any chicks or chickens or quail that die go to her to feed her hawks. I have had to do this with a few roosters as well because no one would take them. It was hard for me but the circle of life happens. I also help her with food by setting out live traps and always get opossums for her. With the birds she uses a CO2 tank but for the opossums we use the drowning method. Plus I don’t want them eating my chickens or quail that I selectively choose to keep.
