Just for fun, as we got an assortment of a barnyard mix for our broody from a friend a few weeks ago. She wasn't even sure if some of the eggs were fertilized or not (details in another post)

But out of 12 I popped under our broody, 6 hatched (4 nonfert, 1 busted, 1 died about a week before)

Her roosters were: 1 black Australorp and 1 silver laced Wyandotte

Hens: buff Orpington, black Australorp, silver laced Wyandotte

Eggs were collected over four days and she gave me 2 dozen but I only stuck 12 under our BO lol

We're guessing the ones with spots are Wyandotte/BO crosses, and the black one is an BA/Wyandotte cross. It will be fun and interesting to see them grow!

Hatch day Dec 1! So roughly 24 hours old lol

I wouldn't expect mostly white chicks from any combination of those parents, honestly. One thing for certain is that any chick with a rose comb will have at least one Wyandotte parent, but it may be too early to tell comb type at this stage. I suspect the black chick with red on its face is Australorp x buff Orpington. The whiter chicks, who knows? It will be interesting to see what they look like as they grow.

So cute I really don’t know the black one looks like what I’ve seen in a buff orp and lavender orp cross so idk maybe buff x black austrolorp buff chicks when mixed with stuff usually look like that

More cuteness lol 2 weeks old

Wow, look at that wing action, and feathering! They grow & change SO fast. "Mama Buff" looks so happy in the early photos with all the little fluffballs...is she still mothering them a lot now that they're bigger & more active? Just curious...

They'll surely be an interesting assortment when they grow up! Hope not too many cockerels...

They are just over 3 weeks now and for the most part Mama still mother them, especially at night. She started last week taking them up into the nest box and bops them on the head if they try to get out, but I've watched on the camera one hop out, eat drink and then go back throughout the night as we keep the 100wat fluorescent light on. Granted this weekend has been warmer the previous three weeks have been in the 30sF.

None of them have pea combs, they are all integrated with the flock fairly well. Most of the bigger girls leave them alone, we have one Brahma(Shy Girl, our biggest girl) who seems to stick with them and assist. Mama doesn't care one bit.

And it's funny to watch them, one of the white ones has no fear and will mingle under the others without a care in the world while Mama and siblings are in another area.
