Just to second Gritsar's comment. I have one roo that turned into a terrorist and is on death row as we speak. He also was surprise. He is pretty but completely untrustworthy around people. He will be soup soon. OTOH I have four roos in another coop/pen and all of them are gentlemanly. I did use Gritsar's suggestions with the second group and now have four good roos. Good at taking care of the ladies as well as having a healthy respect for humans.

I walk through him and make him yield to me. I also don't let him mate in front of me. (it's a dominance thing, the head rooster never allows the others to mate while he's around - they get a butt whooping if they do - make sure you are top rooster) If he tries, I knock him off the hen.
