We just recently started raising chickens again. We had them years ago,but now I am fascinated by them. We live in Ohio, have 14 hens and 1 rooster. We were lucky enough to get girls that had just started laying. I got 9 eggs today and am in chicken heaven. Can't wait until it warms up to see if I get more. We love watching them and all are very friendly. Looking forward to learning from more experienced chicken owners.

I also can't wait for spring, but my chickens have been pretty happy the last 2 days. I chased them out of the coop yesterday so they could mill about the yard, they were afraid of the snow that was still on the ground, but today as soon as I opened the door they were ready to go out. Which is good. They were cooped up for 5 days and things were starting to get a little cackle-y in there...Lol. It's always awesome to get hens that are already laying. We tried that. We got 3 hens and a rooster, and the guy we got them from said that they were all laying...but one was too old, and one might just be getting started, her comb has just started to come in and get nice and red. We ate the one that was too old. There is one leghorn hen that lays for me almost everyday.

Fourteen hens and one rooster is the exact makeup of my flock, and I'm totally captivated by them, even more so each day. They're the most entertaining pets I've ever had.

What breeds are your chickens? Did someone give them to you or did you buy them? How old are they? Are you planning to add more to the flock, such as raise some chicks come spring?
