Just got a new duck! :D *GOT ANOTHER ONE! PAGE THREE FOR PICTURES!*

Did I say that I fed her scratch? I have grower crumble for everyone

Scratch is just a treat. I just bought some frozen peas for her today.. Probably better than scratch anyway

Sorry, I was referring to DUCKGIRL's post.

The OP asked what kinds of treats could be fed to the new duck. DG answered scratch, peas, carrots. She never meant that the OP should only feed the duck scratch just as a treat.

Okay, so here she is

Her name is Ruth. Not sure on breed. She was born late spring of this year.

I couldn't find my camera so my phone had to be it

It is a girl, right? Hope so! I don't want a drake hurting my chickens! :S

We want to get her a friend from the same breeder. Probably going to wait until the weekend or Friday. She's okay until then, right? She has her chicken buddies

She's cute. The best way to tell if she's a male or female is by listening to her voice. If she has a strong "QUACK" then she's a girl. Drakes have a quieter raspy voice that sounds more like a "WHAAA-WHAAA-WHAAA."

Oh cool! Yes, very strong quack sound

She seems to only do it when it's bedtime though. If I turn the lights out in the garage they migrate toward the coop pop door. She only seems to quack at that time

She's very sweet to the chickens. Would I be able to tell if she is being mean to them? She nibbles at them, but it looks like a loving thing, not like a mean peck. The chickens don't seem to like it though

Sounds like she is fitting in fine, but another duck girl friend will make her happy, she is a cutie too. If she was hurting the chickens they would be avoiding her like the plague and screaming as she pulls their feathers out.

You might be happy to know we are considering a Muscovy for her girlfriend
smile.png
It seems like a lot of people suggest they are very friendly. We are not in it for the eggs. Would this be a good breed to go with her? Same breeder we got her from. He has quite a few different breeds of ducks. She was an uh-oh duck. He gave her to us for free because she wasn't pure. Pshh. I don't really care! She's pretty!

Any idea why she won't swim in the pool we set up for her? Is it too cold?

Maybe too cold, mine have acsess to theirs too and aren't using it. silly things. Muscovy would be wonderful, of course I am bias, but you'll love one, They come in so many different colors and are so cute wagging their tails and following you around, try putting some peas in the bath water that may spark her attention, and can she get into the pool without problems? I made a ramp for mine[ well my dh did]

but just remember ducks and chuickens are addicting so you'll not be able to stop at 2..
