Hi there, I just got four different breeds of chicks yesterday. I'm really excited to see how they each grow up and what there eggs look like. We got an Orpington, blue Andalusian, Maran and a Dominique. Still looking to get my Americauna today. They were out. I really want some blue eggs! Any input on these breeds would be great! Thanks everyone!

Welcome and congrats.
Where did you get them from?
Are they girls?

My Dom is my sweetest bird and lays 6 - 7 eggs a week!

We have 4 Orpington ( 3 Buff Orpington 1 darker Orpington ) they lay Brown eggs and are good layers we get a egg from them every other day. They can lay during winter also if given enough light ( 16 hours per day) The eggs are x large. They are friendly and do go broody on us once a year. They can lay up to 280 eggs a year so they do a good job for us. The hens I have are large chickens and would make a nice meaty bird that could be eaten once they stopped laying. They lay good for about 4 to 5 years and then they slow down or stop laying.

Welcome & Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
