New to raising chicks but did some research first. I bought 6 Golden Comets and they appear comfortable in the brooder. I dipped each beak in the water immediately and they found food in short order. I also bought some chick grit but do they need it now or is that something for slightly later? Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

They honestly don't need grit unless you are giving them hard-to-digest treats like vegetables or insects, which IMO is better to wait until they are older (at least a couple weeks old). Congrats on your new chicks!

EDIT: I also see you may not have a thermometer. Keep a close eye on them so they don't get overheated or chilled. Should be at ~95f

Congratulations on the new arrivals! Golden Comets are great layers and quite friendly. They are among my favorites. As MiniBirdsMi said, you don't need grit if you are just feeding starter mash. I have never used purchased grit but my birds go outside at a young age and have access to sand/dirt. They find their own grit.

Last week I posted the heat lamp at 6” intervals and recorded the temp at each elevation and wrote the result next to each support location. So I have a predetermined temp control.
