Just got my e-mail from Holderreads! 6 week update, bottom pg.8

I know it will be a busy summer. I have 3 children already, the oldest turning 6 in June. This is my 4th so I figure life can't get any crazier.

Bring it on! I agree that the duckling should be fine, though I worry too. These being my first ducks I worry more about when I get them then when they are in transit. I've read a bunch in "Story's Guide" and this site has been a great help, I just hope I do everything right.

No call from the post office this morning.

They always call before 7:00 a.m. when I have birds and eggs waiting for me, so it looks like they're coming tomorrow.

I know they should be fine. It's just that last year I ended up losing 2 of my 12 ducklings from Sandhill in shipping, and Sandhill Preservation Center is only 4 hours away from me! (The P.O. screwed up though, and they took 2 days to arrive).

At least it looks like all 8 of my Bantam Cochin eggs are going to hatch (7 were out and 1 was zipping when I got up this morning) - so they'll keep me busy until the ducklings arrive!

I got a call at 6:30 this morning! I didn't expect them to call that early, but they're here! So cute and little, the ones we saw at the feed store were bigger. I never new how cute they could be. I think it helps that they are mine and I don't have to give them back.

I'll try to get pictures later today.

Hope yours come soon for you.

Ohhh. All 11 made it and look great. Hopefully I can keep them that way.

Hooray! My post office usually calls between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. - I'll be waiting for that call tomorrow!

I have three brooders up and running now - the big one in the garage, one in the spare bathroom, and one in my bedroom!

I got them this morning and the day is crazy, but I'll post pics later when the craziness comes down. Had to make an emergency trip to the feed store to get fresh feed. They're settled and happy now. All in great shape--got an extra duckling--probably a pekin, dunno, it's yellow--the rest look wonderful.

Pics and more later. I can't believe they came so fast!!!

Mine came too!

I got a call from the post office one county over and had to make a 45 minute drive there and back, but they're home now ALL of them safe and sound!

They gave me an extra Hookbill - so I have 6 - 4 are Bibbed and 2 are Solid Dusky.
The rest are all yellow - WHAT are the yellow ones? I have 5 of them. They DO look like Pekins, but I've heard of some people getting White Appleyards as extras from Holderreads too - I e-mailed them and asked if there was any chance they could tell me what breed the plain white ones they were packing as extras this week were.

You know, I was really hoping for that when I opened the box and saw all those yellow ones! But, on the bottom of the lid they wrote:

6 Dutch Hookbills (1 bonus)
5 Bargain Duckling Assortment

Plus, they don't have the curved bill like the Hookbills have, and they're too plump - in the pictures, you can see how much bigger than the Hookbills they are.

My best guesses:
- Pekin
- White Appleyard
- Aylesbury
